Hi Guys and Gals,

I am new to the forum and have some 1980 studio monitor model 10s I purchased new. I have read where some are modifying or adding new parts to theirs. Should I do this? What should I do specifically? I did get new tweeters from the Polk Customer Service dept. about 5 years ago. These speakers are still near perfect condition and sound great, but I want to protect them.

If they sound great to you, you can leave them alone.

If you're looking to improve them, you could upgrade the crossover. Your best bet is to pull your current crossover and see what value caps and resistors you have, then replace them with better parts of the same values. I recommend Sonic Caps capacitors and Mills resistors. If that's too pricey for you, Dayton from PartsExpress.com makes some decent capacitors.

Welcome rs2962! I own a pair of Monitor 7Bs that I purchased in '79. I upgraded the crossover on them this past summer. I was amazed at the improvement that I realized with the cap and resistor upgrade. It was not a difficult task and if you do some searches on the forum you will find actual pictures and directions showing the steps. I purchased the Sonic caps and Mills resistors. A great project and one you will enjoy every day after you complete it.

Correction I used the Solen Caps for the rebuild. The parts were all aquired from Parts Express. (www.partsexpress.com)

Welcome to CP. I too highly reccomend the XO upgrade. Other than that feed them a steady diet of clean power, and don't abuse them.
    Enjoy

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
