Advice needed on Lsi Setup

Hello! My name is Devlon, and I am new here. I really need advice on completing my Lsi 5.1 HT system. I have a Velodyne SPL1000R sub, 2 Lsi9's, and and Lsic. I am now looking for some Lsi's for rears to complete my 5.1 system. Space is a major consideration. This system will be used 90% of the time for music. I need some opinions on which Lsi speakers to choose for the rears? I guess my choices are another set of Lsi9's, the Lsi7's, or the Lsifx's. I have never heard the Lsi7's, or the Lsifx's. Would the Lsi7's sound ok, or would I be better off with the Lsifx's considering that I could mount them up on the wall out of the way.? How do the fx's sound for music? Are they pretty good? How would they compare to the Lsi7's say? Again, I suspect the Lsi9's might sound the best, but are they really necessary for the rears? My living room is an "L" shape unfortunately, and so no matter what speakers I use, they will have to go on the walls left and right of my head. Any opinions you guys have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Devlon

Welcome to Club Polk.
I agree with Keilo, but I do like the LSiFX in the rear. I have the LSi9's in the front and a LSiC as well. 5.1 sound is awesome, but I'm a 2CH guy for music.Michael

Even though your going 90% music, I'd still choose the LSiFX for the rear channels. Regardless of the room design, they will "fill" that area better than a directional speaker like the LSi7/LSi9. You can also choose a bipole or dipole configuration depending on which one sounds best to you, in your room. I like that flexibility.
I currently use LSiFX for multi-channel media and believe it works very well.
IF you decide on a direct radiating bookshelf, the LSi7 would be my choice for rear channels. I think the LSi9 is overkill for that application.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Little off your initial question, but, if it were me, unless I had a huge room, I'd keep the current 5.1 setup and make sure I had the best amp, processor, and source I could with the money I had available for the system.
5 LSis sounds like it would fill up a room nicely.Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand

Hi Andy, and thanks for your response! But on your previous answer "Little off your initial question, but, if it were me, unless I had a huge room, I'd keep the current 5.1 setup and make sure I had the best amp, processor, and source I could with the money I had available for the system.", I don't have a 5.1 set up yet. That is what I am pursuing. So, I'm not sure which Lsi's you are suggesting? Thanks, DevlonLiving Room: HK AVR 354 as pre/pro, 2 x Polk Audio Micropro 4000, Adcom GFA-7500, 2 x Mirage OMD-15

LSiFx's for sure. Fantastic sounding for multi-channel music & HT. Just a great speaker for all applications. If it is mainly for multi-channel music, I would get another pair of 9's.
If movies, 7's or Fx's. Room placement would make my decision between 7's or fx's. (if more than 1' out of a corner, fx's if sitting in a corner, 7's.Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)

welcome Devlon. i don't know if it makes a difference, but 7's and fx's can be mounted to the wall with keyhole slots on the back of the speakers, 9's can not. you'll have to buy or fabricate brackets, shelves or stands for those. i think there are threads here about what's worked for others with 9's.

Thanks for you input Scott. I had not thought through far enough about the mounting. I was only thinking about the sound. That automatically eliminates another set of Lsi9's. DevlonLiving Room: HK AVR 354 as pre/pro, 2 x Polk Audio Micropro 4000, Adcom GFA-7500, 2 x Mirage OMD-15

Michael, thanks for your response! You've made me think about, and conclude, that I'm mostly a 2 ch. guy for music too. Just like listening to music 90% of the time, I probably listen to the fronts 90%/rears 10% in the volume balance of listening to music....at least, that's how I balance it on my friends system. The Lsifx's are an interesting design. I'm leaning towards buying some, I just wished I could hear them first. Even though I agree with you, and understand the the Lsifx's would fill a room better, I'm after sound quality as it pertains to music. I'm still uncertain as far as " music sound quality" if the 7's and the Fx's are equal to each, or if one dominates, and how much so, when it comes to music. I wish! 70 miles south is Nashville, none there. 125 miles north is Louisville, none there either. Nothing east, or west of me. Frustrating! I think Polk should require it dealers to carry at least a demo set of these! Although, hearing them in a showroom somewhere will not reveal how they're gonna sound in my living room anyway!Living Room: HK AVR 354 as pre/pro, 2 x Polk Audio Micropro 4000, Adcom GFA-7500, 2 x Mirage OMD-15

I hear you. I have no dealers within 1,000 miles of me. It's up to you, but I do not think you would regret going with the FX's. If you go with the 7's you may always wonder. Sorry, didn't mean to complicate things. Good luck.Michael

Any Tweeter's near you? If so, pick up the speakers there & do an in home comparison. They're very good with their return policy. They use the same drivers, so it's not about sound quality per se. If you were using a pair of LSiFX for your main speakers vs a pair of LSi7....you'd have a sound quality issue. You're using them as surround speakers, not for point source, critical or near field listening.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers?
