i know that all of you are obsessed with polk....but there are some pretty amazing speakers for about the same price as polks. for example i just replaced some polk bookshelf speakers with some paradigm titans and am looking to add to my paradigm collection. if you only stick with polk you are missing out

Well, this is a Polk Forum. A place for people with Polk speakers to chat and help eachother out. Even though we have people who see it as a place to measure there "manhood". People giving "detailed" reviews of equipment "they saw in a magazine once." And clearly nothing to show for it personaly. Some of use enjoy our equipment and others spend endless hours aday talking about stuff they don't have, boosting thier ego's and not enjoying what this hobbie is about. At this I hoped this forum would have grown to something greater. Yes Polk falls in a price range of $. And here WE are. A modest little crowd. I'm sure I will be moving on soon. But I enjoy hearing from people who want to learn and enjoy this hobbie. I have always said put your system where your mouth is. I got a flawless Multi thousand dollar rig but DAM I just can't a get a $100 digital camera to prove it. Enough said. Anyway- ya - Paradigm, Energy and Boston Acoustics to name a few will give Polk a run for the money anyday. But once you invest in an HT setup you just can't go changing speakers every year. Polk is a very solid speaker company - great product all around for the money and that is what makes Polkies smarter than the average consumer.;) Ya I rambled:cool:

Reasons NOT to switch from Polks:

*Nothing I've heard amuses me like the SDA's
    *I have a complete system
*No one makes big speakers I can afford
    *I like the sound
*I have too many laying around
*I like the people on the site
*I have an eight foot logo in the livingroom
*No other company has asked to give me a personal tour
*I like the performance per dollar ratio
*The polks are too heavy to carry back down the hill.
*Replacement drivers are still available after 15 years
    *Friendly warranty
    *Very good build quality
    *Great asthetics
*Tireless listening for long periods of time
    *Real commitment to new designs
*Do everything well rather than a few outstanding traits

Before I bought my Polks I listened to several brands including the Paridigm Titans and Minis. They sounded pretty good and they were mated with the same source as I was using (Denon 1802). I ended up with the Polk RT25is because I felt the Polks offerd a better midrange and high end. The Paridigms went lower but at least in the setting I heard them in the bass was more boomy than I perferred. The clincher was that for a similar price the Polks were more solidly built with real wood veneer vs vinyl over mdf. There was too much plastic on the Titans and you couldn't remove the grill. I guess it is a matter of taste but dollar for dollar I belive that Polk is a better value than Paridigm.

The best reason that I can think of to stay with Polk Audio, customer service.
Being a man of limited means, the purchases that I make have to last a long time. I saved for a couple of years to purchase my LS-50's. These small towers are still the best sounding speakers I could ever hope to own. Anyway, I had the speakers for about a year when I went on week long vacation. My sister was supposed to watch the house for a couple of days. Sometime before my wife and I returned my sister had a couple of people over and somehow I ended up with a rattling driver. Of course no one knew anything about how it happened. So a couple of days later I called Polk customer service. I explained to the tech/cs person on the other end what happened. I told him that I needed to order a new driver. To my surprise he told me not to worry about it, that he would just send me a new driver. I about fell over. This guy was taking care of my speakers for something that was My fault. That was the day that I knew I would be a Polk owner for life. By the way when the driver arrived, there were two drivers in the box.
I finally completed my theater after 10 years this past year. I purchased a CS400i and a pair of RT25i's for the surround channels. The 400i is almost a perfect match for the LS-50's both in frequency response and tonal balance. I now have a modest but perfectly balanced and well imaged system that gives my wife and I hours of enjoment. I don't know how other companies treat their customers, but I have no desire to find out.

The only other company I know of with that kind of CS is SVS. This is one of the primary reasons that I own these two brands.

This kind of CS - timely response to emails, replacement of parts often out of waranty even if it was customer-damaged - builds loyal and fanatical customers for life. The companies that know this will always survive and prosper in the dog eat dog world of A/V.

Other speaker brands I got in use:

Pioneer, B&W, Boston Acoustics, KLH, Paradigm, Dahlquist.

I like all of my speakers having said that, for many reasons, Polks are my faves. As madmax pointed out, one of the things I like about my Polks is that they don't do anything badly plus, they are my sentimental faves. Where else could some schmuck like me roll into corporate HQ and get the roll out the red carpet treatment? Great company, great products.
