The old Toshiba DVD player is all fouled up. It wont play a DVD or CD all the way through with out skipping and stalling.

I'm opening it up for a look see.

Other than massive hairballs stuck to the laser, what else should I look for?

I've had the rails supporting the laser transport run dry and cause CD players to skip. A little dab of lithium grease applied with a Q-tip to each rail cleared the problem right up.

    I didn't think of that.

Everything was clean and nice inside. I swabbed the laser with tequila, or maybe it was isopropyl alcohol, I can't remember. Anyway, it worked OK when I put it back together. Might have been the goat sacrifice too.

I'll try some DC3 on the rails, the dow corning silicone lube. It is my lubricant of choice for things of this nature.

    Thanks for the tip.
