Props to Outlaw Audio's shipping

After a lot of hand wringing over what to buy, I finally decided to get an Outlaw LFM 1 plus. I ordered it online last Fri afternoon, I'm guessing around 5. Their claim was they'd ship within 5 business days of the order. Fine, I've waited a long time, I can wait a week or two more.

My wife stayed home this morning to let the AC repair guy in, and while she was here Fed Ex showed up with my sub.

I'm guessing they shipped this First thing Monday to get it here by Wed morning. I may end up hating the beast, but at least they have great shipping.

So, I got this little beast wired up.

I'm using Monoprice "high quality" digital audio cables, and they seem to be working fine.

    It's mated up with a pair of m10b's, csi3, rtfx's a Pioneer Elite vsx80txv, and an Oppo981.

Right now I'm x overed at 50hz, with a 0 setting on my speaker output, and my sub volume is about 50%, and I'm in 180 phase.

First I tried out my Sammy Hagar Live in St Louis dvd. I was a bit underwhelmed, but I didn't want a sub that got in the way of the music (no big thumping), so I can't complain. I played around a bit wit hthe settings and volume, and I got it to where I liked it. I heard bass notes I hadn't heard before, so that's a good thing.

Next up I threw in Pirates of the Carribean At Worlds End. I skipped to the scene where they were entering the cauldron. Did I mention I placed it right next to the couch? Well, after the cannons started ripping, and the couch started shaking, I had to turn it down a bit, since there's people in the house besides me. (I can't wait till I'm on vacation in a week:D)

This thing has improved my HT exponentially. I origionally wanted one to take the low end strain off the m10's that I bought new in 85. They've been great for music, but with rapid bass heavy HT (explosions) I became concerned for their survival, so I bought the sub. It's something I should've done a while ago.

I have a lot of movies I need to re watch now.:p

I still haven't tried any cd's yet, so I'll have to do that soon. I'm sure I still have some playing around to do before it's dialed in, like maybe it's time for a spl meter.

    It'll be fun.:D

Nice write-up. I too, just got my Plus yesterday. Here are a few pics. BTW, I have left the paper on the top until I get it placed properly and fully calibrated. My plan is to go ahead and get a second one. Enjoy!!!!!

Try crossing it over at 80hz. Should enhance music and movies.

I tried it there, and I'm not sure I liked it at 80. But since I tried it, I've raised the sub up 3/4" and put a small towel under the driver to tighten up the lowest stuff (tile floor on concrete), so I probably should look at that again (it's not like it takes a lot of time to change it).

I also need to run it through my receiver's auto set up to see what that does. In other words i'm not done messing with it yet.

Okay now I know where I have seen this thread. This is audiofreak38 from over at avs......LOL!!!!! If , I remember corerectly the Elite has X-over settings of 50, 80, 100, and so on.......right? If I were you, I would use the 80 Hz setting. Tuen the gain on the sub to a little under half-way. Run the MCACC and then double check with a RS SPL meter if you have one. After words, you can then fine tune the level to your liking. Hence, I usually turn my level on my receiver up a bit before turning the gain up on the sub. That way, you can keep distortion down and not clip the signal. Most, run their subs a bit hot meaning 2-3 db louder. You may also want to turn the center-channel level up a bit if you are having trouble hearing dialogue or just turn the gain down on the sub just a tad for better integration. Hope this helps. Talk to you later.

    Cheers,

    Phil

Rivrat, for what it's worth, I cross mine at 60. I used to cross mine at 80, but on some foreign movies, it was a little boomy (my sub was in the corner of the room).

So, I let my receiver set all my ht settings, along with the equalization. I'm not sure I like what it did.

It set all my speakers to large, crossed over at 80hz, and of course adjusted their output levels. Those are fine, maybe, but it dropped my sub to -10. That one I'm not so sure about.

I'm not so sure about the eq settings either. That's pretty subjective to my tastes, not some piece of electronic equipment that's been programmed by a human with different tastes (i.e. I have some high end hearing loss, and it dropped my high end levels down).

I'll have to watch some vids, play some music, and just see. I was pretty surprised by what the receiver did, but, it is a 3k cf room with 10' ceilings. I would've thought it would've jacked up the sub a bit higher though.

I can always set it back up myself. :D

Hey Riv, if you set all speakers to "Large", then they all are getting a full-range signal. Only those set to "Small" will be X-overed at whatever point you select. Just thought I would mention this as a means to be helpful. No pun intended my friend. Hope this helps.

I didn't set anything. I had them all set to small, yet the receiver (auto mcacc) set them to large and crossed them over at 80 (along with the level and eq settings)

So if the crossover doesn't work with the speakers set to large, why would the receiver do that? And remember, it DID recognize the sub.

    Edit...

Apperently my auto set up doesn't know what to do, becuase according to the manual it did set my speakers to full range. So, I guess I'll go back to what I had set, since apperently I know more than my auto set up feature on my Pioneer.

Riv when MCACC sets a speaker to large it is based on the "deemed potential" of the speaker. I used to own a Pioneer 1015 and had the same problem. Just go into the manual settings and set it back to small if need be. Use what sounds best to you-after all that is what truly matters right? My YPAO on my Yammie 663 sets all my speakers to small except my FXiA4's. I just go in a set it back to small. You need to go into the manual settings anyways to check your levels with a RS SPL meter. After YPAO runs, I usually go in and do some fine-tuning. Hope this helps my friend.

    Cheers,

    Phil

It's just fine the way it is. Basically it's close to the way I had it set up before I messed with it.

I don't really get the mcacc issue, but it doesn't really matter.

    all small
crossed over at 50hz....I feel my m10's do mid to high bass better
    sub -5

    I'm happy for now.

I own a LFM1Plus but I'm on carpet. I have one of the ports plugged. I have the spike sitting on top of the supplied disk which helped a lot (got the sub off the carpet). Also, my Yammie did not auto set correctly so I've manually changed the speakers to small and crossovered at 60 (bass management by Yammie, sub on bypass). I've also cranked up the signal from the receiver and turned down the volume on the sub a little (I think the volume is at 4). I'm not pleased with the auto detect capability (standby) so I have the sub at the ON position.

    Good luck
