RTi70/CSi40 users - what are your crossover settings?

Title says it all. I'm trying to get a feel for what people are using for crossovers when running a pair of RTi70's with or without a CSi40 center. I personally have had a hard time telling a difference between having it set at 60, 80, or even 100Hz, so I was curious what all of you have found to be the best setting?

My current system is listed in my signature...

Thanks!

I had a CSi40 before I got my LSIc and had it set a 80 just 'cause that's what was recommended. It sounded good to me. When I tried it a 60, I couldn't tell the difference either.

Where did you get this recommendation, out of curiosity?

I've found that a good rule of thumb is to set crossovers so that you get about a half-octave above the -3dB point for the transition from speaker to sub to occur (based on the common 12dB/24dB per octave crossover slope used in AVRs). On my Onkyo 705, I'm running my RTi70s at 60Hz (40Hz -3dB point x 1.5 = 60Hz) and my CSi40 at 70Hz (50Hz -3dB point x 1.5 = 75Hz).

You can see from the math that 80Hz will give you a little more transition with the CSi40, but I found that I got better response from deep voices using 70Hz. If you have the option, it's worth trying. Otherwise, use 80Hz.
    Equipment list:
    Onkyo TX-NR3010 9.2 AVR
    Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights
SVS 20-39CS+ subwoofer powered by Crown XLS1500
    Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
    DarbeeVision DVP5000 video processor
    Epson 8500UB 1080p projector

Mine's set at 80 although I'd prefer 60 but it's not an option on my Pioneer Elite VSX-52tx. Goes from 50 which is too low to 80 which is the THX recommended frequency but a little too high. I think the RTi-70's and the CSi40 can can handle a little lower and still sound great. My RTiA7's are quite happy at 50 but since the 70's are doing surround duty I balance the whole thing for best overall sound. Also the transition from the subs to the fronts and surrounds on really bassy stuff is better at 80. I really wish 60 was an option.

80 is usually the standard recommended crossover by AVR manufacturers and speaker companies too......as a general rule, Polk customer service would suggest 80.....I suspect that's what the majority of people do... but, it's not etched in stone. Having said that, one of the great features of you center is the large drivers that can handle 60 nicely. I think either one is fine.
