Im in the market for a upgrade. I currently am running rti8s. Does anyone have and experience with Totem acoustics? I have found some fair used prices on the rainmaker and arro.. Would these speakers be an upgrade to my rti8??
Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables.

They are upgrades in sound for sure, but understand that the RTis are made for HT and to go real loud. The Totems are made for Music and to go depp but not at high volumes. Also, the RTis are made to rock our whereas the Totems you indicated are more jazz and blues speakers. They are not Big Hair Band or Tool or Coolio speakers. That being said, I've heard both Totems and owned the Rainmakers. They will be a major improvement in music.

I owned the Arros for about a six or seven months. Absolutely top rate in a small room and had 'em mated with a Monarchy SM-70 Pro. Their imaging ability is uncanny. Extremely fun speakers.

Totem makes a wonderful loudspeaker across the board.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Well the reason I want to upgrade is because Im not happy with the way my RTI8s play music. Acoustic music sounds fine, but rock music, doesnt sound that good. They are great for HT though, I would like something that is a all around good music speaker while still good at HT..

In my experience, Polk LSi are excelent and best for both music and HT.

I agree, polk LSis are pretty awesome for movies and music. . . if you have the right equipment to drive it.

If you don't have a beefy receiver or separates, I would try to find some good speakers in the 90+db range and 8 ohms. Paradigm Studios seem similar in price and build to Lsis but easier to drive.

Bedroom: Samsung HPR-4252, Toshiba HD-A2, HK 3480, Signal Cable, AQ speaker cable, Totem Dreamcatchers, SVS PB10-NSD, URC MX-850

I have a onkyo 805. I dont think that would be good for polk lsi speakers.. I guess it could drive them till I can afford a upgrade. I was considering polk lsi9s..

The Onkyo will do ok with the Totems, but since you have a preference for rock over acoustic, and matching with the Onkyo, I'd suggest the Paradigm Studio 40's. Or, go vintage with a pair of Polk 10's.

The Arros are very power hungry as well, though I did power them quite nicely with 35 class A watts. Being used in a small room also helps.

I listened to the totem rainmakers and thought they sounded awsome, but then the salesman switched on a set of Monitor Audio rs6, they sounded head and shoulders better and by the time you buy quality stands for the totem's you will be about the same price point.

The Totems are beautiful and great sounding speakers but at that price point I like the Monitor Audio speakers better, but of course thats a matter of opinion.

The Onkyo would be fine and you can re-assign the rear amp channels to bi-amp if I recall correctly.

Zero, touches on a good point here. Totem products are damn picky when it comes to what's feeding them. I've heard several thousand dollars of gear on a pair of Hawks that did not sound as good as a $600 preamp and a $700 amp.

    Bopicasso,

Most of the folks in these parts know that I dig Totem products.

That said; the only Totem I know of that is perfectly adept for dual purpose listening is the Forest. The Sttaf is also a wonderful multi-talented performer. Unfortunately, neither product will shine on an Onkyo receiver.

I would instead direct you towards other loudspeakers from the likes of AV123 or Ascend Acoustics. Even companies like the aforementioned Paradigm and Monitor Audio can deliver the goods without requiring a big investment in time and component upgrades.

    Good luck.

    dorokusai,
I forgot all about bi-amping, so I broke out my manual to the 805 and decided to bi-amp the rti8s. Alot more bass! Wow I was impressed! Thanks!

A fine effort Doro, not many receivers offer the option you suggested. Hopefully others with the Onkyo 805 will find and use your suggestion.

The Totems can sound nice, but you have to ask yourself was it worth the effort. I would highly recommend anybody who is thinking of using Totems to buy from an authorized dealer who has been dealing with Totem for many years. I had mine for a year or two and couldn't stand them, I just couldn't get a combination that would work.
