Ever since Carly was voted off; I turned it off. After the Paula slip where she talked about a second performance of another song, unintentionally, I think the show is somewhat rigged.

All the finalists have great talent but, Carley stood above the rest consistently and I simply stopped caring and watching after America voted her off.

I figure those were probably her notes from the rehearsals.

That's correct - I care enough and take music seriously enough to loathe everything related to that **** show.

It has pervaded every goddamn aspect of society and I'm sick of it. It's on the news, it's on the radio, it's on other TV shows!!! It really is ridiculous and I find myself simply unable to communicate with anyone who can't see that.

Don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel.

I actually agree with you. It's a shining example of what is wrong with the music industry. It's all C-RAP!

I'm not thrilled with it and resisted it for 6 years now, but there is some talent there. Sure, the Idol producers make you work for them for like 5 years and you have to sing the songs they feel will sculpt you into a cash machine, but I thought Katherine McPhee had a great voice and looked hot too and she's doing a lot of things since she got off the show, not just singing.

The show has some deep flaws but the finalists are actually pretty talented people and if I were in the "business" I'd jump at the chance for an opportunity to make it big.

I think the whole first half of the season with the auditions is a train wreck as they pick most of those freaky people on purpose purely for entertainment and not as serious contenders.

It is ashame it invades every single media outlet non-stop all season. It's not necessary for the success of the show as it seems to stand on it's own.

I also enjoy the show. In fact it is one of the few things I watch on TV.

The music industry doesn't cross my mind while I enjoy the show, but since someone brought it up, let me just say that David Cook, winner or not, will sell more than anyone else that has been through there.

Like everything else in the world, you can take Idol however you want to take it. If you want to be all elitist and sanctimonious and think about how it's ruining the music industry you can, but getting your blood pressure all riled up because a show is popular and pervades the media is going to make for the miserable life you deserve.

Personally I watch it to hear the occasional (more common in prior years than this one) good vocal performance and maybe laugh at something stupid that happens and all in all it's been pretty enjoyable.

Not saying you have to like it, but it is so not worth some of the vitriol that people throw out about it. It's a couple hours of TV every week and maybe a 30-second mention on the news.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

300 million people in this country and these are the 3 I get to choose from? UNREAL.

Inflation is rampant, gas is $4 a gallon, the war in Iraq is going nowhere and all these 3 do is pander to the lowest common denominator.

    I'm NOT voting in November

I don't watch American Idol, because it effin sucks! Is that clear enough? I don't watch FOX tv because it effin sucks!

The other stupid show I don't get or like because it effin sucks is Dancing with the Stars on ABC. OMG! do we really need to have that on the tube 4 nights a week? I don't want to see people compete dancing.

Oh and guess what else they are brining back that bites it hard. the Mole. Are you freakin' kidding me? It's been off TV for a couple years.. and now they decide it was good enough to bring back?

They actually cancelled The Mole two or three episodes into the second season. For whatever reason, it was the only reality show I ever liked.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

TV shows get canceled all the time. you know why though?

Low ratings = no one likes the show and no one watches it. = advertisers won't buy :30 second TV spots so the show doesn't make any money for the network.

I've never seen a complete episode....ever. And last year (or the year before), there was even a gal on there named Bailey something or another that was from the small town I live in. I think I saw 2 segments where she sang but missed the night that she forgot the words and they disqualified her. Of course, the news played it non-stop for about a month. Sheesh....

After tonight's result, I am predicting that the two Davids will be left standing.

Next week, David A. will take the crown even though David C. has better prospect of being commercially exploited.

and, no, I don't watch AI. Really, that's what happened when you have school-grader kids at home.

I voted for David Cook tonight because his name is easier to spell, he's from the show me state, he sounds more like pearl jam than david a and david a reminds me a little of john denver who I have nothing against but I prefer a rocker over john denver most of the time.

I'm guessing but it seemed like david cook didn't want to win for whatever reason like contractual obligations maybe.

American Idol makes stars of those on it whether you like it or not. David Cook's pre Idol release "Analog Heart" sold only 500 copies prior to Idol, but went gold with 500,000 paid downloads at Amazon in 4 weeks from March to mid April.

Check out this level of popularity.....$500-$700 is crazy! http://cgi.ebay.com/American-Idol-David-Cook-CD-Analog-Heart-OUT-OF-PRINT_W0QQitemZ220230908969QQihZ012QQcategoryZ307QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I might be alone here in the U.S., but I wouldn't mine seeing the demise of the entire regime of so-called reality TV. I remember tuning into MTV's The Real World back around 1992 when it first premiered....and I thought to myself, this is nothing but a bunch of strongly-opinionated people who get mad at each other on purpose to attract viewership. There didn't seem to be too much reality TV for the rest of the 1990s, but when I returned to the U.S. after a year abroad in Aug. 2000, everyone was ga-ga over Survivor and Joe Millionaire. Maybe American Idol and such talent shows are a slightly different breed, but nonetheless they all seem pretty...affected, contrived however you want to put it...so I've been staying away. I don't doubt that there's talent out there; I just don't dig the presentation of it. Call me an old curmodgeon at 34.
