I have one and it sounds great. My box is tuned for music, so accuracy was the goal in my setup. But I'm sure if you wanted to build a large ported box with the Titanic MKIII, you could have a nice HT sub too.

It all depends on what you want to do with the sub, but I think it is an excellent subwoofer.

I did quite a bit of tunning and playing with the 15" MKIII. It is a great sub. For extreme HT I would go large, but limit it to 500watts. I blew one with an Adcom 555 bridged to 850. The 800 watt figure is accurate for a medium sized sealed sub. Mine in a large tube would make the particles from the ceiling tile fall down, and you could feel the bass on a concrete slab about 60' away.
These were my original design, and I should have kept it that way.
    Gross volume 10.17 cu ft
    Estimated weight over 100 lbs
    Total height 85 inches
    Port 6" 30 long
    Driver 28 lbs
    15 Hz tune
The frequency cure was nice and flat when I corrected the SPL meters readings.
    Good luck.
    have fun.

You blew one of these? I find that hard to believe, these woofers are built like a tank! What movie were you playing that caused the woofer to blow?

On my setup, which is mostly for 2-channel music, the woofer barely moves (even at high volumes)!

    It was probably 60Hz at 1500w! :D

I used to own one. What exactly do you want to know?
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

War of the Worlds chapter 13 right at the beginning. Broke the cone, and proceeded to fry the coil. PE wouldn't warranty it. They let me buy another at $160 to meet me half way. Adcom bridged really moves those cones. With a big enclosure 500 watts is good. I have mentioned it before, but you gain 3db+ from the larger enclosure so losing 300 watts of power handling is no big deal. Even for music if you set the big tube at 60-80 it still sounds good with a real amp. When I shrunk it it sounded a little tighter, but not worth loosing the HT blow you away performance. Anyone who hears a 15" Titanic in a big tubed will crap their pants!

Wow, I have mine in a small sealed enclosure and the sub is more than necessary for HT.

You have seen my main speakers, and collection of amps. My X girlfriend says it stems from a penile insecurity problem:confused:

I would like to try a sealed box for haha's. How many feet did you end up with for what kinda frequncy response?

    Thanks

My box is slightly less than 3 cubic feet, which gives good response flat down to 28Hz. I'm powering the sub with the 1000W Dayton plate amp, which is more than enough for the sub. For music applications it is absolutely wonderful, the driver hardly ever moves and you cannot tell that there is a sub in the room.

Ooh. Is it the plate amp that is totally related to the separate amp made by Dayton with the toroidal PS, class AB, parametric EQ, and crossover slopes? As in this one

I like the clean plate amp, but I change stuff too much, and the plates just don't work well with a tube.

Sir I am green with envy!

I've got two of the Titanic III 10"er's in my media room. They do an excellent job but performance is limited by their size and power. (duh) They are well-made, though, and go down to the low 30 Hz range, and they do it loudly enough for me, but honestly, I haven't pushed them that much as I mostly use the system to watch HDTV. Nat Geo, Discovery, Equator...stuff like that.

Carlos, thats a good sub. do you have just the driver or is it in a cabinet?

if you need plans, I got the 142.5l ported box design for the adire audio Shiva that was supossed to work damn good with the titanic as well

I think 3 cubic feet sealed would work fine too (I think they had a kit with that size box from parts express. use 3/4" to an 1" mdf to do it, dont scrimp
