RT1000p Subwoofer Amp Hum

Hello All:
I recently purchase a pair of RT1000P tower speakers and have notice that one of the two has a hum when the subwoofer amp is on regardless of power plug and whether the stereo is on. I don't think there is a grounding problem, but would like to rule that out before considering a repair or replacement of the amp. Any suggestions? Also excuse the ignorance, but do the subwoofers operate without the amplifer and is there a way to activate them without having the amplifiers on?
Thanks.

Are you running a separate RCA cable to the amp from your Sub or line-level pre-out on your receiver? If so, try disconnecting it and see if you still get the hum.____________________________________________________________
