Big Hairy Upgrade

Well, for me anyway. I recently had an eBay sale, selling off a bunch of stereo and photography equipment. I got about $2600 from the sale, and used that to upgrade the various systems around the house. Here's what I did:

Replaced the Monitor 50's in my main HT system with a set of Monitor 70's.

Replaced the Outlaw RR2150 reciever in my main 2 channel system with a new (refurb) Nad C372 Integrated Amp. The Nad C 525BEE was replaced with a Marantz SA 8001 SACD player.

This allowed me to upgrade my computer room stereo, using the Outlaw RR2150. The old Technics integrated in there went to the 2 channel room to serve in a seperate system for my (sometimes) roomate to use as a guitar amp. He has a preamp that connects to any stereo system that mixes the guitar in with the source music for jamming. He freaked me out one day plugging the thing with the volume cranked up on the Outlaw. I had visions of my LSi9's being blasted to pieces by this foolishness, so I set up a seperate system for him to use for this.

Next, I hooked the Nad C 525BEE up to the tube amp system in my front room, making that little system sound even sweeter than it already did (if that is even possible).

To top it all off, I am posting this message using my brand new Apple MacBook Pro notebook computer, so the last few weeks have been good for me.

So, what do you think about it now??

Sounds nice to me, I need to get a 2 channel rig going. I am curious to hear what you think about the Marantz 8001.

I'm in the same boat. Been going through gear faster than R. Kelley (or Roger Clemens) goes through teenage girls.

Broke my long standing rule of not upgrading my HT by recently purchasing some new B&K components, some LSi9s, and moving my Lsi7s into the that room. Surprisingly, I sold my Monitor speakers (60s, 30s, CS2) for nearly what the Lsi7s and Lsi9s cost me together. The B&K stuff won't be much more than the combo of my HK 635 and B&K 3-channel amp either, if I can sell them both for a fair price.

My 2-channel system has seen an equal amount of change. New stand delivered today, added 2 subs for fun (def tech prosub 80s), trying out a few sources, etc. Lot of fun to play and compare stuff, and you can do it for relatively little money if you are smart with buying and selling.

It's all about staying patient and slowly piecing together a good system, if you have the time to do so. If you are wanting to build out a system over a weekend, you're likely going to have to pay retail and/or sell your current gear below value.

The jury is still out on whether the Nad actually "sounds" better than the Outlaw does. Sure, it has a higher power rating, but that does not necessarily mean "better". Right now, if I had to choose, I would pick the Nad, but I can't really say why. I mostly listen to blues, soft jazz, and lean a lot to acoustic stuff in general. I'm listening to it right now, and it sounds REALLY good. Just a matter of taste, I guess.
