Perhaps when mantis gets back, he will have some info about your question. I knew he would be missed.

I'm using ASC and EchoBusters in my current 2-channel setup. I haven't heard a room yet that wouldn't be improved by these products. Of course, I haven't heard every room, and yours could be different.

If you read through some of my posts, I've described how I use them, and what changes with various configurations for me.

If you have any specific questions, I'll be happy to try and help you out.

    Thanks Guys,

rlw, I was wondering if maybe a cheap substitute would/could serve the same purpose? Something like acoustical celing panels. Also I was wondering how you decided where to position the panels. Did you send EchoBusters your room set up, or just experiment with it yourself?

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this. Work is just kicking my ****, and I haven't had any time to even kick back, let alone post.

A cheap substitute might/might not work. Depends on the frequency range you're dealing with, and the magnitude of the problem.

Check out this link: Jon Risch's Site

Jon has decades of experience, and is currently a designer at Peavey. He has some decent ideas on homemade acoustic control devices.

The first room I did - do a search on my posts, I've talked about ad nauseam before - I worked with ASC on quite a bit, but ended up with my own combination solution. I'd say that whoever will give you some ideas for free is a good source for learning right now.

As far as where to position stuff: reflection points come first. You have first reflection points on walls, ceilings, and floor. To find them, sit in your listening position. Have a friend take a hand mirror, hold it flat against the right hand side wall, and walk up and down the wall. When you see the tweeter from the right-hand speaker in the mirror, you've found the first reflection point on the right wall.

The second reflection points probably matter less: same idea as above, but while doing the right wall, look for the *left* speaker's tweeter.

Other areas: behind the speakers is usually a good place to start, as well as behind the listening position. You might want to use Auralex foam for this - you can buy a couple of panels at your local musician's store, or online for a few bucks - and move it from location to location in your room and listen to what happens.

As far as commercial products go: I really like the Acoustic Science Corporation [ASC] products, use them a lot, and can't imagine putting a serious system together without them. Check them out at:

    ASC

I do have EchoBuster corner points in one listening room, and they work.

Let me know if you have any specific questions, I'll be happy to try to talk about it as I am able.

Cool! Thanks! They look like a neat idea. Especially for people who have large flat, unbroken spaces in thier viewing and listening rooms. Doesn't break-up a decor too much but offers alot of functionality.
