On my search for some of the big boys i found another pair of the SDA SRS'S. The guy wants $1,500. I have some pictures of the condition they are in (double click pic to see full size). I dont what it takes (pricing) for restoration, so i thought you guys could give me an idea if these are worth while and for the money?

-Several dustcaps pushed in.
-Side cloth in the right speaker is out.
-Passive radiators and surroundings look like they don't take their dog out as often as they should....
I would pass on these._________________________________________________

Lets say i were to pay for these SDA SRS'S... what is an appropriate price to pay for the speakers in their given condition? -
Haha, i noticed the same thing.

Perhaps $900-1000, but that's based on the photo's you have. It's hard to say w/o seeing them in person. Grill cloth and elbow grease are cheap. Replacing drivers and refinishing wood is time consuming and expensive.
At the very least I'd make sure the PR's and drivers work well together and the cabinet/drivers have no air leaks. Look very closely at the PR's to make sure they aren't damaged because those are hard to find. They are no longer available from Polk. Dust cover are more aesthetic but certainly having them pushed in lowers the price."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. See how good the cabs are, and if the drivers are good. Local pickup is the deal maker.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I feel if i owned them i would want to have all the drivers looking good therefore i would replace the 4 pushed in speakers on the left, and 2 on the right... Did anyone notice the rust around some of the drivers on the left speaker and rust on the passive radiators? Could there potentially be some rust on the internal parts (crossovers etc...not good?) (Looking closer looks like there is a tear on bottom right driver on the left speaker) He did mention small pin holes on the drivers as well.... I don't know, but i do know i would like a pair!

probably from the last time he tried to pull the dust caps out. when will people learn?
and really, though i can certainly hear the benefit of leaving the grills off, it isnt worth the potential for damage that he obviously had (since they are f-ed up).
me? i take 'em off when i want to do some serious listening, and leave them on the rest of the time. "them" being the grills.

that's like way to high.. i mean.. seriously way to high. half of that price would be ok, but not $1,500 UGH!PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

That is so damn funny
Being biased like I am ( Paid 500 for one pair of SRS's and 600 for the second pair....both pairs were in awesome shape ) ....I would have a hard time even paying half of 1500 for those in that shape....I say pass as well.
On another note....
Of course original is worlds better, but for some poor sap that had a " Leaky " dog or a loveable cat like Las and some ruined 15" radiators....at least he could throw these in and have something tunable and with a black vertically smooth ( NOT a cone ) face so they even look nice.
CSS is coming out with a new 15" passive radiator that looks a whole hell of a lot like our 15" passive...and the important part...can be tuned to actually SOUND close enough to our 15" radiator in the very near future.
I purposely bought their 18" version for a subwoofer build because it resembled our polk radiators so much.
Here is the pdf on the 18" version http://www.creativesound.ca/pdf/CSS-PR18-data-230907.pdf
And the mention of the 15" model on their site....
15" passive radiators added to the PR line - specs to follow.
PR1514 is a 1400 gram unit and the PR1510 is a 1050 gram model. These are $75 each plus shipping. In stock the week of the 12th. ( You pick the lightest start point for a higher tune...then add weight to lower the tune )
Who knows, maybe while playing around with tuning them ( Modeling clay while tuning...when you find the perfect tune you can remove the clay ...weigh it and use the permanent rtv/lead shot method ...they can go down as low as 4Hz so you CAN find the perfect match ) you might even find a better sound .
At least you would'nt have 185 pound possible rats nest in the garage...you could have working speakers
At only 75 bones each , I might even buy some and play with them in my SRS'sThe first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
I just bought a pair from Madmax for $850 with tweeter upgrades and spare drivers and I'm not sure what all. He's even bringing them partway across the country when he moves - great guy. There is a pair of 2.3s in the For Sale section of this forum for $900 that sound like a good deal. $1500 is way too much to spend for a pair from someone you don't know anything about. If you are patient you can pick up a pair from someone in "the family" and be able to trust in what you are getting- at least we hope so. I haven't even seen pictures of these but you know - I'm not worried.
Good luck, Phil -
I do not... i feel like i am not going to bother with these speakers. I have already offered him $1000 he will not accept that offer.

Go back and tell him..."ok, how about $900....I was being generous with my counter offer." See what the comeback line is then! What do you have to lose!Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa? Or is it........................Spanky?.................................Sinner.

That's a great price and we (myself) included get spoiled with the GREAT deals in our FM. In reality a nice (which these aren't) pair of original SRS's can bring $1300-1500 or more ebay and Audiogon.
Again if after personal inspection the imperfections are on the surface then offer <$1000 if not pass.
