I have a pioneer elite 81-txv and it only has 5 preset crossover points, 50, 80, 100, 150, 200. and i want to try some different crossover options... do u think its possible to bypass the crossover on the receiver by setting it 50, then adjusting the woofer to a different point, like 65 or 90... or would that not work?
thx

Could you not just set the mains to large, use the speaker level [L+R] in to the sub, wiring the speakers straight from the sub and utilize the 600's X-over?~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

The sub needs to do the crossover by itself for you to have a variable solution. Even then, most high-pass sections on subs are fixed around 65 Hz.
There is no real easy answer without knowing about every piece of gear you have. That experience, I do not have in your case. -
Set the receiver to 200 Hz, then use the adjustable on the back of the subwoofer make all of the adjustments.

If he sets it to 200Hz that may be higher than his sub should handle. Usually if you want to do the crossover control on the sub, the sub will have a high gain input (i.e. it will have a connection that can accept an amplified signal), along with a high gain output, which you then connect to the speaker. If your sub does not have this, you might want to look at picking up an external adjustable crossover. Some will work at the interconnect level, and give an LFE out, others work at the speaker out level, and would need to be rated to fit your amp's output...
