Help with mitsu DLP!

Oh, man, am I freakin' out here.
I turned my DLP on like any other day today, and the tv shut itself off. red light on the front panel indicated that the bulb had died. Which didn't make me so mad at first (though i wish i would have had some advanced warning..) so i decided to power up again, and realized that the fan that cools the bulb doesn't rotate anymore..it makes this odd sort of "whine" that decends in pitch. does this repeatedly, until it decides that it doesn't feel like operating, and shuts down again. (mind you i have no picture at all during these times). has anyone had any experience like this with the Mitsubishi WD-52631? Thanks for helping. GTA4 just can't wait for the tv to be back up and running again!:D

Sucks to be without the DLP, but sounds like Mitsubishi has stepped up to the plate and is fixing it for free.

well i spoke with the people at mitsu today, and they are firm in their belief that the lamp is faulty. while i'll have to see it to believe it, i'm somewhat confident they are correct. a bulb that lasts 8 months shouldn't be faulty though. but hey, i get a free bulb sent to my home in 2 days, so i'm not complaining!:D

Let us know how it turns out. My brother-in-law has a similar model so I would be interested. Just a couple of thoughts:

I thought Mitsu's had a built-in bulb life warning message that popped up when the bulb was getting old. You could turn it off in the menu (actually, I think you reset it).

My understanding was that bulb life was between 5000 & 7000 hours. I know it is on LCD RP's, not quite sure on DLP's. If it is, you would have to leave your TV on 29 hours a day to burn a bulb out in 8 months.:rolleyes: I guess it could be faulty in that it failed earlier than it should have.

Regardless, you're getting a new one so that's good.

yes, i thought that was quite strange myself. the funny thing is, i thought the tv (being relatively new) would have a feature that would notify me of the bulb life reaching the end of it's days. no such luck so far! another oddity that has plauged me since day one of turning this baby on was the fact i can't seem to be able to check the "power-on" hours that i've used already...there isn't even anything in the manual about that. ah well, i'll send in the fax of my receipt tonite, and i will keep you updated as to how it all goes down. hopefully i'll get the new lamp sometime by thursday at the latest.

My buddy had the same thing happen to his Mitsu DLP. It was less than a year old and the lamp went out. New lamp was sent and it took less than five minutes to replace. As far as I know, this is a very common problem with the DLP sets with different manufacturers having various rates of success on how long the lamps last.

My brand new 57831 did this on day two - Mitsu changed bulb but still did it. Turned out to be a bad light engine. Entire TV was replaced after me raising Holy H3LL

got my lamp from mitsu, everything fires up and works well. VERY speedy service, i must say. i'm impressed. just hope this bulb doesn't die in 8 months, because they only warranty the warranty bulbs for 60 days. (that's just silly). anyways, problem solved, it was a bad bulb, and i got a free year's worth of watching out of it, so i'm ok with that.
