When I feel down...

I think about walking through the childrens cancer center and seeing nothing but smiling faces. Then I stroll over to the delivery ward to see the "pre-mees" tubes, wires, little heart shaped pieces of tape holding IV's, but apparently sleeping soundly. My point is not to make our problems seem insignificant, or to discredit them in any way, but that sometimes all we need is a stiff kick in the nuts to realize---maybe, just maybe our life isn't so bad.

My kids grew up with the saying "for every problem, there is a solution." They must have heard me say this to them a million times. Being kids, the solutions were easy--but I wanted them to work through it with me. My point to them was not to dwell on what's wrong, but to focus on what they could do to make it right again. In other words, move forward, don't get wrapped around the axle with something that is in the past--nothing will change it--instead look to how you can avoid it happening again.

Truth is so much more satisfying than fantasy or desire, because truth never falters.

That is all.

Sounds like you were where I work Steve. Were you in Tucson at the hospital recently?

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to shoot photographs at a local "Special Olympics" event. We take lots of photos trying to get several of everyone participating and then we make a DVD to give to each participant and their family. The one thing I noticed in almost every photo I took were the smiles. Here are kids and young adults with various levels of handicaps who are just having a good time in spite of thier issues. It really brings home that most of what we **** and complain about is trivial at best.

    Here are a few....

Amen Shack, good stuff. My mom works as a vocational evaluator/rehabilitator at a workshop for mentally/physically handicapped folks. The positive vibe there (in spite of their problems) is down right amazing.

    Wow, what a great thread.

I am sitting in Incheon Int'l Airport and was feeling a little bummed but this puts things in a VERY nice perspective.

    Thanks,
