OK, I understand that. Where do you go from there? I am as computer illiterate as they come. In fact, I hate this damn thing. So, those that know....what next?
Pay for something? Linky? **** out of luck? What's up?

I've not run into this when setting up an account for any forums.. that is pretty odd. I wonder if they get flooded with spam if you use a free email account.. and it overloads their servers? just a thought.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Does your ISP not provide email addresses? Use theirs. -
They want something like a comcast or verizon account....or a business account.

I've got a Yahoo account which I guess they will not accept. I can't get on to Micheal Greene's forum and another one that I would like to join.
The next step in my rig will be some room acoustic treatments and I have a couple of questions that I'd like to ask and research on before I go blowing more of my hard earned cash.
I don't even know how I set up my Yahoo e-mail account. In fact, knowing me, I probably had someone set it up for me when I purchased this computer. I literally have not one clue on how to proceed.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? It might be a hint. There isn't anything on the internet that's THAT exclusive, move on.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Make one up. No one will ever know or care unless they send you a verification email before they allow your forum account to become active.

I'm a member of 2 forums that require a "real email account" never had any problems or spamming as a result--I think they just want to verify that you are serious about joining/participating--not just logging on to be a troll.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I have seen quite a few, and it is usually a deal breaker
I have never used the email account I got through an ISP, used my yahoo for probably the last 5-8 years or so. I am sure there is good reasoning behind it, I just wish they would get more moderators and ban people who need it, instead of "pre-filtering" their userbase.Update: Once again allowed on polk forums from work! New job yaaaay. Well sorta. -
Makes a lot of sense depending on the kind of forum you're running. I'm on 2 that require this as well, and I am glad they do. Keeps you from getting F'd in the A by some scamming jag off.

I run into this from time to time. It used to be more prevelant than it is now. I have an account through my ISP which absolutely sucks...so I never use it....never even check it. I have used my Yahoo email account for over 10 years. If they need a "real" email address I give them the other one...and that is all it is good for."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

Ok, so how do you set up a ISP e-mail addy.? I don't even know what my ISP is or how to find it. This is nonsense to require a different e-mail. I wouldn't want to join the damn forum if I wasn't serious, that's not how I roll.
I tried Googling how to do it and I still can't find out anything. Maybe it's the keywords I'm using, I don't know.
I can't even e-mail the **** to notify them that I would like to join the forum without a "non-disposable" e-mail addy. WTF? The least they could do if they won't accept the only e-mail I have ever had is provide a link to hook up a "permanent" [or however the hell they call it] e-mail addy.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. ISP = Internet Service Provider (e.g. AT & T, Time Warner, Comcast, AOL, etc.)
Call your ISP and tell them to run you through the setup. -

I use idontgiveoutmyemailaddress@aol.com or abc123@aol.com when someone won't take no for an answer. On any paper form, I leave it blank and no one ever asks for it after that.
