Strange day

Ok, So I plan to go to the Lone Star Audio Fest. Wife comes with me(surprize).
We get there, I decide to start in the Audionote room.
The whole thing is the Embassy suites, which is 9 stories high with an open center
and glass ceiling. Audionote is on the 9th floor, so we get in the glass elevator.
Wife hates heights, so she faces the door. We get out, and the walk over to the
room with the display takes us around the walkway, which overlooks the open
center of the hotel. She freaks bigtime. Of course, all the vendors and club setups
are on the top couple of floors. Crap!
Instead I take her home, stopping for a nice lunch. I now decide not to go back.
Instead, I drive over to look at a pair of $75 Kef 103.2 bookshelves.
I leave to think about it, and decide to check out some Stax headphones
at a local audio dealer. Instead, I look at a pair of GNP speakers that came in on trade.
The price drops on the GNP's, and I end up with a pair of speakers.
The wife calls me to ask about a ATM transaction while I'm driving home, and
I tell her about the speakers. She's mad as hell. I get another call for a
down system over Fort Worth. I go home, grap my laptop, and head out.
A couple of hours later, I go home, and she's all mellowed out?!?

No, there's no moral to this story. It's just another weird audio hobbyist
kind of day. Next time, maybe I should just stay home.

No. She didn't think I needed different speakers. And she has a temper.
    Never marry a N.Y. girl.:(

I guess having two amps, 3 preamps and 3 CDP's in the closet doesn't help.

AHHHH Now the truth comes out. You can only have so many systems in one place & usually listen to only ONE at a time. & to have a closet fill of stuff you are not even listening to NOW?

I'd blow my stack as well! It has nothing to do with being a NY girl it has to do with spending money on something that you already have others of & will probably end up keeping the OTHER UNUSED gear company!

Sorry S2bm, I'm with the wife on this!

If I'd just went to the meet, none of this would have happened.

The fact she had the ability to call you about an ATM transaction within an hour of it occuring....jesus....does she get those alerts to her blackberry? Kinda scary...maybe you need a secret bank account.

Mark they are married & obviously have a joint account that BOTH use. Maybe today is balancing account day, whatever. As for secret accounts, thats unhealthy for a marriage.

If he wants to have a SEPARATE but known account that he funds entirely with his own money that doesn't impact the smooth running of the whole household go for it.

This is the difference between being married & being single. It's no longer just about YOU & what you want. If that's what you want...STAY SINGLE!

I think every union should have 3 accounts - Mine, Yours, and ours. It's the only way.

Atleast three, but it's ok to have that secret account too.

Every marriage requires the male to have a slush fund for important stuff like audio, guns, motorcycles, etc. It harkens back to the early humanoids who right after they learned to walk upright and use a leaf to wipe their ****, figured out that having a stash of nuts and mammoth meat in the back of the cave kept them from having to hear that infamous phrase "where do you think you're going?".

    +1 on Darla's thoughts!

Glad things have calmed down. I have a separate account that is used for audio. Yes my wife knows about but she could care less. I remember one time asking her about spending $5K out of that account and she said, It's your account. Once the family is taken care of totally, and they always are, Michael gets to play. Carry on.

    ABSOFREAKINLUTELY!!!!

I would make that clear up front! Whatever has just my name on it will keep just MY name on it. I won't have access to his, he won't have access to mine. Then we open something with both our names & each contribute to it!

Case in point. There are a pair of Proac D80's for sale on Audiogon - $8500. I asked my wife to come and look at these babies. I then ask, Can I buy them? And she replies, Why are you asking me. I wonder if she would ever say NO, not likely.

And they were MINT. For some reason, they just didn't grab me. I'm sure they didn't last long after I left. The guy was getting calls while I was looking at them.
I don't have a slush fund. I don't normally have much money on me either.
That keeps me from buying stupid stuff I don't need.
Most of the stuff in my closet is old stuff. I don't have any Mac or Krell amps sitting around. I do need to dump the Rotel amp and two of the CDP's. I guess the Paradigm studio 60's have to go, too. She's right, I really didn't
these. But that won't stop me from enjoying them.

Isn't it cool to see such a good marriage Darla? All it takes is 2 people to work together, understand each other, properly prioritize & balance what needs to come first. Once that is done, neither have a problem letting the other enjoy their individual hobbies!

We should all be so lucky!:)
