comcast sucks! i called last month because hi-speed was low-speed. they said the whole east coast is affected and that i should wait a day. i get my bill yesterday. those mf's are charging me $29 for a 2 minute phone call!! that's on top of the usual $140 a month i pay! a-holes!
anyway, at my condo, i can get 'basic' sattelite service for free. however, my plasma does not have a tuner. what can i do??? get a vcr and use that as a tuner? will it convert from 75ohm coax to component?
i'm looking forward to 2-09 when digital stations will be free. i say f--k the cable company! i'll miss discovery HD, tho:( and speedvision and 3 sheets.:D
if anybody can answer the question abt sattelit...THANKS!!!!:)

If you spend a couple of hundred bucks, you'll get the free over the air channels.
You won't get Discovery and stuff. As far as sat. tv, I've got Directv, and they're charging me $60/month. I'm getting ready to dump them, because out of 185 channels, I look at maybe 15-20.
An external digital tuner is about $100, but you can get up to 2 $50 coupons from the govt. Just Google digital broacasts, Feb. 2009 and click on the link to the fcc?
You can print out the coupon from your pc.
As for a digital tuner, check out BB, CC, Radio Shack etc. Along with a amplified antenna(?). I saw one antenna that claimed 55 mile signal pickup.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -

Thats where I am at. Screw big industry, need a contract, lousy service, big bills, and its your fault CS. I get fox on demand, and TV via analog antenna, switching to digital antenna soon. To many on demand Internet shows available when I want them.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

"Getting RID of cable service!!!"
Where you been? 'bout time.....~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
I'm sure they will feel the sting of your loss.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Comcast with internet 162$ per month, 2K per year.
I'd like to try some new alternatives.-Ignorance is strength - -
Get rid of cable ? ... With 30 / 10 mbps for $39 ... Unlimited phone calls for $29 and 40 HD channels ? ... I don't think so ...

I've got the second from the top-tier of Direct TV and it's $87.00, this includes all of the HD channels, but no movie channels. I kept Cox cable for my internet service at $49 a month. Coxs' cable service is faster and the the same price as Direct. I get something on the order of 250 channels, I have 1 HD receiver and 4 standard receivers--all of the equipment/installation was free.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I think I am paying something to the tune of $70-80 a month for basic (read BASIC) channels and cable internet. The net is rated pretty quick I think when I went to one of those network test sites, but the TV sucks, mostly spanish channels, so we always just watch movies. Sadly, I'm in an apartment and dont have alot of choices, besides going to satellite, which isnt an all that easy solution.
BTW: Im using Ygnition, an AT&T apartment brand or something.Update: Once again allowed on polk forums from work! New job yaaaay. Well sorta. -
I've been with Cablevision for a while but I'm dropping my phone and TV subscriptions next month after a move. OTA HD looks much better (no/less compression) and I can live without a land line. The Winegard SS3000 (I think that's the right model number) looks like the antenna for me... anyone use any other indoor antennas for apartment dwellers?Currently listening to:
Marantz SR5004
Sony BDP-S370
Apple TV V2
Audio Technica AT-LP120
Mirage CMD-5 x 5
Bic H-100
