I am not really a whiner but I am really having a difficult time keeping my spirits up lately. I am going to be 40 in 9 days and I find myself with my heart terribly broken by the love of my life, my house headed toward foreclosure and here I am on a Saturday night typing on an Internet forum with my iPhone because my wireless is crap thanks to my PS3.

These last 6 months I have been very hopeful but reality is hitting me really hard right now.

Hate to hear that Darla. All I can say is to keep plugging along and it will get better.

I had a rough streak there for a few years myself. Moving to a new state, a major rift in my family which involved most of them moving across the country, bankruptcy, a couple years in a job that made me want to kill myself, cousin shooting himself and a couple other wonderful things. It sucked.

Now things are getting pretty good. Got a nice new house, jobs going well, things are looking up.

I guess what Im trying to say is that life doesnt suck all the time and its not great all the time. **** happens. Main thing to remember is to have the mentality that if youre going down, youre going down swinging and chances are youll weather thru it and when things finally turn around youll be the better for it.

Thats what I think the meaning to life is - to survive it and make the best of it that you can.

Darla, Keep the head held up. Bad times come and go. Usually they come when we are at our lowest point. I've had a LOT of experience in that area.
Seems like a few of us are going through some crap right now. I was called down to the HR manager where I work the other day and was given 30 days to reach a goal that is impossible to reach. I've been on this job over 7 years and it's about to be tanked. I'm at the age,55, where it won't be that easy to find the kind of job I want or make the money I have been making.

    Heck, it's all good !

40 ? I've got underwear that old ! And as soon as I figure how to attach pictures, I'll email you a few hundred shots of "The Ol' Bluelight Special !".

Yes, as exciting as that news must be, the best news is this:

    IT GETS BETTER

I know, everybody has to get sick of hearing that, but it's true.

My son woke me up at 4 am Thursday morning with a "Hey, Dad, can you give me a ride to work ?".
Long story short: Timing gear(s) gone on his 2002 Intrepid (sweet little car, no matter what you may hear).
Good news ? Well, ....... uh ...... the local garage only wants $1700 to replace the timing guts.
Okay, that news sucked, but good stuff always follows bad. Always.
So, in the meantime, we're exploring our options, and the good stuff is coming. Don't know when, don't know how, but it will.
Why ? 'Cause we're looking for it.

So, remember: it's all good !

If you are depressed (or, think you might just be depressed).... talk to your Doctor. Broken hearts can lead to a drop in Seratonin and your brain chemistry might just not be able to bounce back as fast/easily as you would like. If that be the case, there is no reason to suffer needlessly. In any event, exercise can help you feel better and probably can't hurt anything. Lastly, avoid alchohol right now as that is a depressant.

Hey, I know EXACTLY how you feel. But it WILL get better. I just turned 41 this year, and my life took a header over the last year. It's still going on. But you gotta keep chucking away at it, babe.

You're getting up from horizontal every morning. It's a good day. As long as you're looking at the right side of the grass...

Stay strong. Whatever doesn't kill you will only make you stronger.;)

    Darla,
Life brings us good and bad. You have to deal with it. Sucks but fact of life. I do hear yeah. I'm 37 going on 38 in June. I feel the youth slipping away. I have for the last few years. My back hurts, my well you already know.

I must have missed the Love of your life thing, I don't know the story there but I know how that feels when that goes south. You will heal. If it don't work out, then thats what is suppost to happen. Even at 40 which is not old you will find one day the right person. If I understand you thead correctly here.

The house eff it. It's just a house. You will be able to get another one one day and it probably will be better suited.

You job now is to hold your head up and take on all these chellenges. As said we are here for you to bounce ideas and have a place to rest your head.

I wish you all the luck but I know you have the strength inside to meet and exceed this.

What's it all about? Good question. You figure out the answer to that one and then shoot me a line, cause I'm dying to find out myself.

Do like the golfers do. They go out and hit 500 really bad shots. Then they hit one halfway decent one, and the whole thing starts over again cause they're so happy about the one good shot. You need to go out and get one good shot to forget about the bad ones.

Some really good thoughts here....to me life is all about the choices we make. Sometimes we choose wisely, sometimes we don't. We just have to live with the consequences (which we don't always have control over)

Every day though you can choose how you wish to react. You can choose to let life get you down or you can choose to not let it get you down. That IS within your grasp.

You are ok and you will be ok.

Some good words of wisdom in here. I like the one line from the movie Shawshank Redemption..."Get busy living or get busy dying!"

I hit 40 back in November. Hell, I feel like I'm just hitting my stride now. Career is in full bloom, photography business doing fine, etc etc etc...

Took me years to get there. Along the way I learned these simple things that alot of people don't seem to get...

    1. Avoid negative people and the ones that want to bring you down with them. Get rid of them! I don't care who it is! As long as they continue to influence your life, it will wear on you.
    2. Feed off the energy of positive people and be around them. Surround yourself with this type of people.
    3. America is the land of opportunity! Grab your slice of the pie cause nobody is just going to give it to you!
    4. When you succeed, take care of the people that helped you get there. The ones that put you down, belittled you or said you would fail, well, F*** them!

    Get busy living Darla!
    No excuses!

Troy is right. It is all about choices. In the last 10 months, I lost my brother, a sister, my 14 year old dog and just last month, my mother. I allowed depression to set in and take hold. It affected everyone and everything around me. My employment was at risk. Seek help and support. Ultimately, it starts and ends with you. Be that person where there is no mountain for a climber and just a hill to a big stepper.

And have a great birthday! 40 ain't nothing when your looking at double nickels.

Ok Darla, time to get out of the dumps. Get your butt to Polkfest and enjoy some good times with people that actually care about you for what you are. There, the fall time period is addressed. 40, you are at your best. Your maturity level is now at a point where you can make solid rational decisions. Most can't yet some can. Thought I better protect my **** before all the under 40's put on the big whine.
A very wise man once told me that if he had a financial problem he would go see a financial expert. If he had a heart problem he would go see a heart specialist. You are on the edge of starting a new career and the one thing you do not need is being outside the positive element.
My brother-in-law was a RCMP officer for 20 years. Years after pulling dead bodies out of cars, buildings, whatever it caught up with him. He went to see a specialist and is on the mend. If you need help, go get it. I am not being mean but if I didn't address my problems over 20 years ago I would not be here. And, the last thing you want is for you to be down and the person responsible for some of that feeling enjoying life. Dig the hole, bury the feelings and enjoy life. You are worth it!
    Michael ;)

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the advice. (and the ones that made me laugh!:D)

I have been trying to stay positive. I am in a slump due to recent developments but you guys are right. I have my health, a good paying job (even though I really don't care for it) and my dogs. (and my bird :p)

I did make some horrible choices the in 2004/2005 but the kicker is that they were based on love and trust. I never in a million years saw it coming. I guess next time I will be more cautious.

I'm sorry you're life sux right now, and I wish I could fix it, but I can't. Please call you're primary care physician MONDAY, and get a referrel(sp?) to a shrink/ counselor of some sort.
    Couple of more thoughts:
A: You don't LOOK 40:D I thought you were in your late 20's/ early 30's
B: Vent more HERE! You don't have to be the positive , upbeat, anchor of the forum. Not that I/we don't appreciate it, but...
C: I'm sorry I don't know how to embed a video, so all I can do is link.
