Component Video Cord for Audio?

So my local bb is putting a lot of stuff on clearance. They had some Monster 1000 component video cords that where normally 110 marked down to 28. I was thinking about buying two sets and us:confuseding them for my 6.1 outs from the dvd to receiver.

Any cons to doing this?
Are video cords different than audio?

I'm using 2 RCA a/v sets for the 5.1 SACD out of my dvdp into my rcvr. It sounds awesome to me, but I'm sure some purist will come along and say 'NO!!!!'

Should work fine, other than the fact that 6.1 requires 7 cables, and the two pair you have will only give you 6.

Ahh, math was never my strong suit. i ment 5.1. So are there any differences in the construction of audio and video cables? Is it just simply that two cords says audio, three says video? There has to be more than that, isnt there?

They're 75ohm cables which many companies use for audio interconnects. They'll work, but I can't comment on the sound.

what are some reasonably priced brands for audio "only" use. I'm looking to set up my dvd-a/sacd player and want to buy some new cables ( 1ft or 1.5ft). Any recomendations?

"signal cable" gets alot of reccomendations on here. I use Audio Art IC 3's. great cables but in a little higher price bracket than the Signal Cables.

Almost everyone I've seen on here recommends Blue Jean Cable. I just checked their website and they have 3' six channel sets starting at $95. Can't see them getting any cheaper, unless you go the route I took(see previous post this thread).
You can also check Audio Advisor, they carry several brands.
    Good luck & happy hunting.

I ended up getting Acoustic Research PR-136 Pro II's series 5.1. Got them for $29.99. Some places are selling them for around $75.00. they aint high end, but they should do the job!

I've always wondered the same, and still don't have a final answer yet, however-in my research thus far, I have found that some packaged Left Right Audio and Video cables, although all 75ohms, can sometimes be constructed in different ways. What I mean is the audio may be coax, where the video is sort of twisted pair.-Not sure how to explain it, but a A/V RCA set (actually RCA brand) has a clear outer jacket, so I can see the inner construction method. Not sure how much that would impact sound, but those cables should probably be avoided. I would stick at least with all cables construted in the same way.

In my searching around, I've also seen that some cables designed specifically for use as Audio Interconnects, have been deliberately designed in different ways, even from the same maker (some coax, some twisted, etc) each apparently with its own merits.

I've seen some cables with better shileding than others and some with larger diameter copper than others. Some made with silver, and a large variety of dielectric.

Even though I don't have all the answers yet, so far I have found/assume (with reservations), that the RCA A/V (2 audio 1 video), component sets, Subwoofer cables, Digital Coax, etc all can apparently be used as an audio interconnect. I have no idea whether any are better than another..

By the way, currently I am using the Monoprice Premium 2's. I don't remember, but I belive I paid less than $20 for a set (6 cables). I use them from my SACD to AVR and from the AVR to my AMP. No complaints thus far

monoprice is a good place if you want good performance for a low price, but don't need a "brand name" on your cables or accessories.

ICs can be made out of either a twisted pair or coax, and both have their place. For my ICs, I use a double twisted pair (four wires in one cable, with two wires carrying the same signal) and I like it a lot.

"Although nearly all audio-visual connectors, including audio, composite and component video, and S/PDIF audio can use identical 75 Ω cables, sales of special-purpose cables for each use have proliferated. Varying cable quality means that a cheap line-level audio cable might not successfully transfer component video or digital audio signals." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RCA_connector
