I used to own a pair of Monitor 70's. I couldn't complain. I am sure that if I had used them with an external amplifier, then I could have gotten more out of them. At the time I was using them with a Denon receiver that produces 130 wpc in a stereo mode. That would still have been ample enough a power for my use at the time. Right now, I am using a pair of bookshelf speakers, LSi9's. I have to cut the crossover point at 80 Hz because bookshelf speakers do not have subwoofer or enclose design needed to produce lower frequency sounds. The difference between Monitor 70 and RTi8 would be that 70 has subwoofer drivers that are dedicated for lower frequency, even though you would definitely need a separate dedicated subwoofer. RTi8 has a better finished look with more expensive wood on the surface. They both have lower -3 db limit of 40 Hz (meaning the loudness of the speaker decreases by 3 db starting at 40 Hz, and more db as it gets below 40 Hz), so they produce similar base sound. Sound-wise, I can't really compare between the two, because I haven't heard RTi8. :)
