42 miles each way. Takes about 1.5-2 hrs in the morning and 1.5 hrs going home. Fill up twice a week.

I have an 11.7 mile commute that takes a goddamn hour and 12 minutes on average. Mainly because every jackass in Southern NJ has no clue how to drive. With no traffic, it still takes about 20 minutes because of the trip from the house to the freeway and then from the freeway to work. Surface streets with lotsa lights and since both destinations are in suburbia, lotsa self-centered people in their SUV's on cellphones caring not what what goes on around them and getting in the way of free flowing traffic.

Can you tell I hate my commute? I'm glad I like driving my truck. Mashing the "angry, go pedal" sometimes is such a therapeutic release. That supercharger just screams at all the troubles and chases them away...until the gas light comes on. :(

The fastest I ever did my commute was in my Thunderbird. I went from work to home in about 7 minutes.

Oh, I can actually make a tank of gas last a week and a half if I'm not driving down to the shop all the time.

about 12 miles, 20 minutes. Also $1.50+ in tolls depending on which way I go.

used to be 1/4 of a mile, 3 minutes with no tolls. Stupid merger caused our office to move.

You know, as much as I hate the commute to work and back, I likely won't move closer to work. The neighborhoods are expensive to live in, taxes are oppressive and the people in general rub me the wrong way. Most of them seem to have this attitude that if you wear jeans to work you are beneath them. Needless to say, I live in an area that is pretty "blue collar". I know many of my neighbors are tech workers too and while that is a white collar profession, they tend to have a blue collar type of culture. They end up being more genuine and honest. Very little drama too. I'd rather hang out with and live around people like that than live around people that will call the police when my truck starts up in the morning and the slightly louder than your average Lexus exhaust rumbles to life and wakes them up.

I even looked around there too. The few apartment complexes do not allow pickup trucks to park in the lots because it drags down the "image" of the apartment/townhome complex as having a higher standard of living. Most developments have a housing association where my neighbors can tell me that I'm not allowed to build a garage on property that I own outright even if it's within building code. Or that if I want to have a pool, I'm not allowed to have an above ground pool. One place even dictated what color of mulch you were allowed to use! What the hell kinda **** BS is that?

Yeah, where I live now, if I put red mulch out, my neighbor says it looks nice and asks where I got it. If I build a garage, my neighbors all stop by to see the progress on the latest project. If I put an above ground pool in, nobody calls it an eyesore, they just ask when the first pool party will be and if they are invited. Those are the kind of people I'd rather surround myself with so I'll deal with this suck-**** commute just because of it. I think have neighbors like that improves my quality of life way more than any stupid "image" rules and housing associations could ever try to.
