Polk DSW Pro 400 or HSU VTF-1 on a budget

I've just purchased RTi A7s, a CSi A4, and RTi A1s. Considering I started out with a budget and considering Monitors, I am way over budget.

I've read good things about the HSU but it's out of my price range of $200 - $300. HSU is $399 + $33 shipping ($432)

I've found a DSW Pro 400 for $339 with free shipping and heard that the DSW Pro series is pretty good as well. For someone who has never had a HT or a quality audio system, would this be my best bang for the buck?

I've found some PSW125s, PSW111s, and PSW303s ranging from $186 to $299 including shipping however no one seems to be overly excited about these subs.

Are there any other subs I should consider?

Thanks

I cannot spaek to the 400 model, but I do own a pair of the DSW 500's.
I am very pleased with them both musically and for my home theater.
They hit pretty low with no distortion, the remote makes it easy to adjust volume and calibrate to your specific placement. I looked at the psw 505 as well, but the digital subs definately outperform them. Hsu and SVS are great subs as well, but I was able to listen and compare the Polk's to other subs in person.

For waht it is worth, I am pleased my my DSW's and I think you will enjoy the 400 series as well.

Great comments Sheld, thanks for posting them :)

The PSW is an entry level subwoofer series and there's not alot of love for entry level these days. The DSW would fit your bill perfectly. It's a great series and much improved over the Polk subwoofers of yesteryear.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

there's good reason for it...polk subs have improved in quality but hsu and SVS are internet direct company and there's less overhead... so you will get your money worth with Hsu and SVS...

Hey what about an SVS PB13-Ultra VS a Polk DSW MicroPRO 4000?

Seriously? It's a great new line but that's essentially crazy talk.

    Not if he's musically inclined.
Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.
