I just purchased RTi A7s for my front left and right, a CSi A4 for my center, and RTi A1s for my surrounds. It was between the RTi A1s and the FXi A4s.

I am considering rear channels as well and wanted to know if anyone saw a problem with using FXi3s or FXI A4s for the rear surround channels?

I'm not sure how using rear bipole/dipole speakers for the rear and using standard directional speakers for the surrounds. Anyone ever do this? Any reason not too do this?

Thanks,
David

    David,

I have a very similar setup. I am currently running a 5.1 but I am switching to a 7.1. I have the RTI A7s, CSI A4 and FXI A4s. The way my current setup is I have the FXI's on a back wall. When I am done with my theater they are going to be my side surrounds and I will get direct fire speakers for the rear surround. From the research that I did this seems to be the prefered setup having the di/bi's on the sides.

    No problem.

You usually use the rear loudspeakers in Bipole mode.

Yes. That configuration is 100% fine.....enjoy it, don't overthink it.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I'm fairly new to all this, but if he has the RTI's and then gets the FXI aren't the FXI's better served as the side surrounds? I understand if you put the FXI's in the back you should run them bipole. Like I said, I'm new so not debating your post just trying to learn more.

The FXi series may serve as a side(Dipole) or back(Bipole) surround loudspeaker, hence, the bipole/dipole switch. In the end, this is subjective, and whatever sounds best is the solution.

So if he only had one or the other, either is fine side or rear. If he has both, the FXI's are better for the sides? I understand ulitmately it is subjective.
