Bringing wine back from Germany on the plane?

Last day in Germany and near where we are is a huge area full of vineyards and wineries. I'm paying per minute for the net here so I'll make this quick. Can we bring any wine back on the plane via carry-on (highly doubt it) or potentially in a checked piece of luggage?

I'll check back in a few hours. Thanks.

I can't imagine checked would be an issue - I've brought booze back from nearly every international vacation I've ever been on.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Last time I traveled, you couldn't bring anything in the cabin, unless it is purchased at the airport stores and delivered when you're boarding. Plus, if you don't have a direct flight home, you won't be able to get it in your connecting flight's cabin. Major PITA.....

Checked should not be a problem.....but should be very well packed. Have you seen how they treat lugagge?????

I know they are VERY strict now with regard to bringing liquids onboard. Call the airline you're flying with before buying. I'd hate to see you get there and not be able to take it.
    No excuses!

As the aircraft loadmaster as well as boom operator, I have been accused a FEW times of "Knowing I had a bottle of wine in my suitcase" and handling it roughly. It bothered me to know that someone could be stupid enough to do that. It bothered me when the bottles broke and ruined whatever they had in the cases. It didn't bother me nearly as much as when they insisted that I did it on purpose. Idiots.

Anybody that puts a bottle of liquid INSIDE a suitcase ................. is just begging for it. Have the stuff shipped back if you like it so much.

If you buy it in the duty free, you are ok to carry it on.

Otherwise, you CAN bring it back in your luggage (just make sure it's packed ok) There is a limit to what you are supposed to bring back but unlikely that you'd get searched and I've never heard of customs actually making someone pay for an extra bottle of hooch.

You don't know the customs douchebag at McGuire. On a case of Panamanian rum, the asshat charged me more in duty than I paid for the case! Only time it ever happened. I think one of the senior customs guys had a talk with him after that. You don't bang home station crews. I got that fool back though. The next time I had to declare stuff to him was the time I pulled the whole crew's customs declarations out of my pocket and they were already on fire. I smothered them out on his desk with my hands and handed them to him. I think I managed a smart remark along the lines of "Accurate completion of these declarations is a pretty hot item around the squadron."

I think they allow you 2 bottles on your custom's declaration...

Get a fake baby and sew the bottle of wine inside. A recently dead cat would work as well but you'll need a carrier. Just say its asleep.

upon my return from costa rica (to miami) in november of last year, we were allowed 4 bottles, and they had to be checked (with no guarantee of safe arrival). the duty-free folks met us at the gate. i am fairly certain that this *doesnt* apply for other countries---- just flying back to us and a. at least, that is how *i* remember it. i had eaten a couple of xanax that day, as we were delayed in CR for like 6 hours.
