I was cleaning up the music room tonight when I smelled smoke, I come hobbling out of the room into the kitchen when I see the whole kitchen table is ablaze and my wife is busy yapping on the phone two room's over, this with the smokealarms blaring.

So as I usually do in a crisis I stayed calm, and proceeded to put out the blaze that is until my wife comes in and freaks out, now I'm trying to put out two fires.

At least there was a happy ending to this story vs. W. Waldecker's.

Posting and putting out fires at the same time?

    THAT is talent.

Glad everything is ok. WTF were you burning? You aren't cooking up a batch of Hillbilly Heroin are you?

Did the kitchen table spontaneously ignite? If it did that is definitely a sign and is totally badass!

That would be the end of that ****...

Good thing your sense of smell still works, since all the other stuff is crapping out on you. Geez, first it's the hearing, then the gizzard, you know what's going next...

I have heard of being desensitized to things Joe, but smoke detectors? Those along with the smell of smoke, one would [I would think] typically think to themselves...."This can't be good", and get off the phone.
