Thinking of an upgrade of reciever, I found a 2 year old yamaha reciever RXV659 for 238.00 or a RXV2700 for 550.00 ....How would they sound with my 10's....The RXV659 have pre-outs that I would need for a future amp and the price ain't half bad.

My son has the 659 driving some Rs. It's a solid upper entry level AVR. My only concern would be the Yammie/RTi matchup. Bright + bright = too bright...maybe. It has YPAO so maybe you can tame it. I'm just repeating what I've read here, so take it with a grain. You might want to check out the refurb HKs. They make for a very solid pre/pro and I like the way they treat the RTis.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

I used a RX-V1500 with the RTi series and was not that bad for what I had at the time.

I'm using a RX-V661 with my Polk RTi6s and that combo doesn't sound bright. I also used an HK AVR325 with the same speakers and could recommend either HK or Yamaha with the RTi line.

I've found a Yamaha receiver to lack the umph needed to really drive a set of Monitor 10's. Also, they tend to be kind-of shrill sounding.

Now, when I hooked up the Monitor 10's to my Krell 250wpc amp, THEY ROCKED!!!

I have a Yamaha RX-V663 that just came out running my Rti-8's, Rti-4's, Csi3, and Bic H100 and it sounds great. The YPAO does help, it can be a little bright on pure audio but you get used to it anyway, I like hearing the detail. With my PS3 for movies it is great too.

Got a Yammy RX-v861, Lot's of juice and not too bright at all, with my RTI A5, CSI A6 and RC85I's.
As my budget allows I upgrade to a decent 2 Channel for the fronts and bi wire my centre.
