I've been screwed by an Ebayer....
that sells Polk speakers. The seller's name is Huntington Mom, real name Rob. He has listed a lot of Polk products and since I made payment he has pretty much dropped of the face of the earth. Before I made payment his feedback was 99+% since then it has really dropped. He still has so much good feedback that the number is still high but the last 6 feedbacks have all been negative.
I have tried to come up with more info about him but I can't get anywhere. Paypal said I waited too long to file a dispute and ebay is useless.
Email address they use or did use, I can't be sure because they don't respond to my mail anymore is... huntingtonmom@optonline.net.
If anyone from Polk reads this, do you guys know of anyone that might use these names with you?
I would appreciate any ideas anyone can offer that would help me get my money back.
Sorry I meant to put this in the clubhouse if a mod wants to move it.

How long did you wait before filing with PayPal? Did you use a credit card?Political Correctness'.........defined

A quick check shows that the seller has been on eBay since 2002 with pretty damn good feedback until very recently. One might venture to guess the seller has become ill or otherwise unable to conduct business. They don't even have any items up for auction at this time.
Since you paid via PayPal, you should have an address and phone number. Right? Time for you to do some detective work.Political Correctness'.........defined

Sorry for your loss. I am in the same boat and probably nobody to blame except for myself. I trusted the guy as he had over 100 sales with 100% feedback. I trusted him dearly and left it too long for a claim. I have sent tons of e-mails and phone calls and no response. I have his name, address, phone number etc, but a little difficult to do when I live in Canada and he lives in the USA. Any thoughts?Michael

Don't any of you guys use credit cards with these purchases? I thought that was the norm these days, it is your second line of defense. If you did then you can file for a chargeback with your card. If you used $ directly from your account, I don't think you have any recourse beyond going to paypal again.

That's terrible. I went through an eBay/Paypal dispute last month and it was no fun and took forever but everything (sorta) worked out in the end. Squaretrade was helpful and they provide links to law enforcement agencies/IC3/ways of putting heat on scammers and such. Has it really been long enough that you can't open a dispute on eBay or Paypal?
With feedback that good you almost have to assume something terrible has happened to the seller or someone accessed his account. Sorry for your loss. It feels terrible when you get robbed on the internet, like you don't have a face to attach to the theft or traditional recourse like a face-to-face crime.Currently listening to:

I have seen the posts on E-bay and the Polk items for sale by him before and there are quite a few of new in box items (if not all). I would guess that mabey Polk did some detective work and found where the items were comming from and put a stop to it. Just a guess, but these practices do hurt other fair play dealers that need to make a sale to stay alive. Even with good feedback it can still be a crap shoot buying from the Bay and other auctions. I would recomend that you always buy with a credit card and as soon as you feel something is amiss notify your card letting them at least know that you may be wanting to reverse the charge so they have it on record that you are concerned about that transaction. I have done that before and luckly things worked out and I didn't have to reverse the charges.

I have bought from this loser as well, the first time was seamless and his pricing was very good, and he shipped using USPS where other sellers shy away from(no brokerage fees for me living in Canada).
The second time not so good... I ordered an A6 from him and the weeks tickes away with absolutely no contact from him. I wasted no time in filing a dispute with E-bay when I reached the 4 week mark. He finally responded with some song and dance story that HIS supplier had shorted him his shipment due to a Polk dispute of some kind.
He then refunded me my money A.S.A.P. which I thought was surprising, otherwise I would have reversed the charges on CC ( which he knew).
Sorry to hear about your troubles, and good luck -
Overall I've had good success on ebay however I did have one bad experience that turned out for the good after much investigation. Bought a motorcycle, sent the guy in North Carolina a grand down payment. He had good feedback, but dropped out of sight. After much research and help from an internet savvy friend found out he had sold the same bike several times, where the guy lived, his phone number, where he worked, where his wife worked, names of other people he had dooped, and the secret service was looking for him. They even contacted me and said I'd never get my money back because when they found him he was going to be put away. Basically I called him and told him what all I knew and I could be on his front doorstep in 7 hours. He overnighted the check and I had it the next day. There's always a risk. I'd say keep trying to get in touch with this person and push ebay and paypal for help. Use the internet to get any info on him.

The story the guy gave me is that he had received confirmation from Polk that he would receive the speakers on such and such day so he went ahead and listed the sale for 10 LSI C. Then he supposedly was told that the speakers would be delayed until the end of April. I did call Polk and someone did confirm the LSI C wouldn't be available until the end of April. The things he said makes me think he is buying from Polk because he had 10 listed in his auction. I guess he could be getting them through a Polk distributer though.
Janmike are you dealing with the same guy I am?
DFranks, same question do you still have any of the contact info?
I have learned, I am changing my account funding in my paypal account to a credit card. The receipt that I have from paypal only shows the account name, the email address, no other contact info.
Thanks guys. -
I got another email from paypal today. I think those people purposely try to confuse me. They said I filed my dispute on 4/8 and I HAD 20 days to escalate it into a claim. Unfortunately, I had not responded to the email to escalate and the time had run out.
Let's see, started 4/8, I get this mail on 4/25 isn't that less then 20 days? I never got the email they are talking about and if I had why the heck would I not do everything possible to get my money back?
OK, done venting. I just have to assume that I'm out that money. Trying to save $150 has cost me $355. -
Try this number for PayPal, 1-888-221-1161. I think it's still a valid number.Political Correctness'.........defined

It doesn't appear that traffic connected with that email/IP address is currently originating from West Palm Beach FL. I think you're looking for someone in the NYC metro or possibly the Alexandria VA area. If you were told they were in the WPB FL area, then I would start by filing a report with the police in that jurisdiction.DKG999

They say in their info that they are in NY. Considering the name, I'd venture to say it's Huntington, NY.
I'd start contacting other buyers as I'm sure at least one person has paid via check or MO and therefore would have an address.Political Correctness'.........defined

Are we all talking about the same seller, Huntington Mom? I went into ebay and sent messages to previous buyers asking for any contact info they may have.

I 've been following this tough situation for you SBrown712, and it got me wondering what the time limit is for filing a dispute with paypal.
For those others of you that don't know the limit is 45 days after payment.
Info from paypal:
"You can open a dispute in the Resolution Center within 45 calendar days of payment. By opening a dispute, you are able to communicate directly with your seller to work out a problem transaction.
If you and your seller are unable to agree on a solution, you must escalate the dispute to a PayPal claim within 20 calendar days of the date the dispute was opened. By escalating to a claim, you would be asking PayPal to review the case and decide the outcome." -
I have searched through my past e-mails with this guy and I cannot find any info on him besides what is available from E-bay.
I paid him through Paypal using my AMEX.
Good Luck -
Well, it must have been after midnight when I sent the dispute form. They are saying it was 46 days.
I got one response back from the letters I sent to other buyers that got their speakers and so far no new contact info.
I'll let this thread die unless something good happens. -
Here's an update:I've been writing and calling paypal since I made the OP. Kept getting the usual answer about being over the 45 days. I got another mail from them today saying that they may take my claim under review. I decided what the heck, I'm off work I'll call again. First guy reads the same book, over 45 days forget it. I ask to speak to a supervisor. This guy starts the same way but I persist in telling him the whole story. He actually listens and after a couple of minutes hear him typing and then says. uummm. Then I think he's back to reading the text, I'm going to recommend that your claim be reviewed and you'll be notified in 24/48 hours by email. So, I go to other things and after a short time go to check email and there's mail from paypal. I assume that since it has come so fast that it's the same, Sorry you're SOL letter, instead I get this:
Our investigation has determined that the seller is at fault, and we have
recovered your funds. Your account has been credited $355.00 USD. Please allow
up to 5 days to see the adjustment on your account. This amount is the maximum
we were able to recover.
I'm stunned for a second then go check my paypal account and sure enough the money is in there. I immediately transfer the money out.
I am a happy camper. Now, where can I get the best price on a LSI C?
