UPS Response Time

Curious, about how long it takes UPS to make good on a claim. SlowCar and I are having an issue with an item they appeared to have messed up. It has been a couple of weeks and I think they should have resolved by now.

From your experiences, is this something that could take them months to resolve?

What stinks is, that if you are the receiver of broken merchandise. You have no say so in the matter. I recently had a tt shipped to me. I paid for the tt, I paid for the shipping, I paid for the insurance, I am the one who had to take all the required pictures. But when i wanted to find out about the claim, UPS says that will only deal with the shipper. Fine, right? Well, I finally get a e-mail from the shipper saying that he got a check from ups. I paid for $750 insured. He tells me the check is $180. And he will deposit it and send me a personnel check. Just enough to cover the cost of a new cover. Sounds fishy but I figure I broke even. If he did get a check for the whole $750 and is only sending me $180, oh well. Bottom line. I can get me a new dustcover. BTW, it took about 2 months.

All the shipping companies take months to resolve claims. Furthermore, unless you followed their packing guidelines to the T, then they will probably say it was inadequately packed. This means min 4 inches of clearance on each side with foam or bubble wrap in between. The item cannot be loose inside and setting an otherwise unprotected item in the middle of foam peanuts is not considered adequate. Of course, if you had the original manufacturers packaging, then its a different story. Bottom line, unless they impaled the item with a forklift, they will probably not pay.

    Good luck!

Here is a little more drama to the situation.

The item was shipped to me in the original packaging, but the box got destroyed somewhere along the way, and the item repacked in a different box with some of the foam from the original and two new pieces thrown in. The box was waaaay too big, so the 50lb sub got all scratched and nicked on two sides and is missing the remote and power cord.

Bill....You are correct, they gave the sender the generic item wasn't packed correctly and there is nothing they can do....but they repacked the item!!!! Hence a new fight over who packed the box and when the original was destroyed.

Seller shipped said item packed. Buyer received said item in different box with items missing.

I don't see what their holdup is. Cut and dry to me.

Gotta love the red tape.

Well, if the seller did actually ship it in the original box, and UPS ruined it and repacked it, then UPS should pay out. I would expect there to be some extra steps in the tracking info to indicate this action. Does the tracking have that?

I still wouldn't expect anything for 6-8 weeks minimum from the time the claim was filed.

I had a USPS claim that took about 18 weeks to get because it was over a certain value and they had to have several extra steps for approval.
