I've done some basic wood work before and hopefully later this year I will have more time to start getting better at it. This was recently posted on another audio forum I frequent and thought it looked amazing...this is the stuff I would love to get into. Does anyone know of any books or other medium so I could be better suited to make stuff like this?:

And stuff like this, which is put together a little more straight forward:

Here's the build of the home theater one:

But I think you have to login.

damn... I wish I had that kind of skill. I've been looking for a tv stand/wall unit for months now and just can't find exactly what I want.

I would suggest a subscription to the Woodsmith magazine! Even if you don't like the projects they build, if you study the techniques they use, those techniques will help you build what you want and learn how to make the most out of your tools.

I've been working with wood since I first discovered it at age 13.

Be warned that you need to have some pretty expensive tools (and a very steady hand) in order to accomplish these types of things. I'm not good enough at fractions to even attempt some of these projects.....;)

I dont have a planar, but especially stuff like the HT setup doesnt require anything special besides a router and a table saw.

I used to do a lot of woodworking. right now, I'm spending most of my woodworking time remodeling my house, but I'm glad I learned those skills, especially on my kitchen remodel.

If you're really interested, subscribe to some magazines like Wood, or Woodsmith (already mentioned). Watch New Yankee Workshop, etc. that'll get you started. (my bench is based on a Norm design I modified)

Be ready to spend as much on quality tools as you probably have in your system, and like your system, anything you cheap out on will be readily apperent when you start to work with them.

Don't be afraid to just go out and experiment with scrap wood, that's where you'll learn to do the things you need to before you start buying expensive wood.

I have some speaker stand designs rolling around in my cranium, when I get around to building them, I'll post pics.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

Experience, precision and patience means the difference between a quality end result and total Scheeitte. The tools [as mentioned] make all the difference in the world. A work area to get the job done correctly is one of the biggest factors.
