+1 on the notification, and carry a spray bottle with a mild ammonia solution in it. When the ratdog attacks, spray it in the face with the ammonia. It won't do it again unless it's totally brainless.

    ^^^DO NOT DO THIS^^^

The ammonia could hurt the little guy. At most spray it in the face with water that has just a few drops of vinegar in it.

Just make sure to use the guns on the owners of the dogs!

Don't blame/hurt the dog for the owners thoughtless, stupid, behavior or lack there of to keep their dog under control.

You killing the dog makes you just as stupid & irresponsible as the owner of the dog!

As the owner of large dogs (great dane and a St. Bernard), I feel your pain....

Trust me when I say the owners will fall overthemselves appologising when their dog bites yours, but the first time your dog bites theirs (on leash or not) they will be running to the police and everyone else they can find to get your "huge vicious animals" put to sleep.

If your dogs are protective at all - there is a good chance that if allowed they will kill the little dog just for running agressivly towards you (or it). They are dogs, not humans. They are not burdoned by guilt or a sense of right or wrong based on size. They just see the threat and eliminate it if possible.

People are stupid around dogs and even worse around large ones. Documentation may be the only thing that saves your dog when it finally ends their dogs life. If they continue the way they have been (letting their dog attack yours) it is only a matter of time before you notice the attack to late and you are known as the owner of the mean dog killer.

If your dogs are well-adjusted, meaning they see you as in charge, they will think it's your responsibility to deal with a threat.

The next time this little dog charges your dogs, put yourself between the dogs and kick the little **** like a football kickoff. (Or, I suppose you could use ammonia or pepper spray. But drop-kicking is more fun).

You guys crack me up. The bottom line is that these little dogs can do ZERO harm....as in NOTHING. They are a nuisance at best. So you're going to taser them, blind them with ammonia, kick them......good freakin' grief...they're HARMLESS. All they do is go yap, yap, yap. Big **** deal. It's their owners fault if they are being a nuisance. They are the ones that need a swift kick in the ****. The dogs are doing what comes natural to them. They are extremely brave, loyal and protective little creatures. Be a man about it and take it up with the owner.

I like dog's too, but aggressive one's will get a kick in the mouth if they run at me. I almost had to shoot a rotweiler once; I was out walking in a section of desert near the house and he approached me aggressively, I pulled my pistol, and it was as if he knew it was a gun--he retreated quickly. I'm glad I didn't have to shoot him.

FWIW, I have always had a bit of fear for large dogs--I was attacked pretty hard as a kid by a neighbors German shepard, and I'm still weary from that incident.

I have to disagree. Having been biten by a small dog and needing stiches on my hand. Little dogs can be quite aggressive. I did take it up with the owner since it was my dog. Fighting over a dog biscuit with his brother. And I am only talking about Mini Dachshunds 12lbs each. 4 Stiches and a whole lot of embarrassment.

I do agree you talk to the owner. Spraying the dog with pepper spray or ammonia is a dickhead move. Man up!!!!

Rule number 1....NEVER, EVER mess with a small dogs biscuit :D And yes, little dogs have Napolean complexes....they make up for their size with a lot of noise and bravado and they will not hesitate to get right in your face. I personally think it's funny when a little dog 'attacks' me as it is obvious they can't hurt you. Usually if you put your hand out for them to sniff they'll come up and smell it at least....and then start barking again. I doubt if there's many that would actually bite you....unless you tried to take their biscuit anyway.

You guys who are laughing off small dogs are forgetting that their biting pressure is still greater than that of a human, and they have a mouth full of pointy teeth.

I know. And yes, big dogs are another story.
BTW, I had 'a few' beers last night (what else is new). My little pooch curled up in my lap as I was reading this thread and she got quite alarmed so (in my drunken stupor) I had to stick up for her.;)

Well sure, but if you are walking along and one 'attacks' you you really aren't in much danger. What are they going to bite? Your shoe or your pant leg? Now if your ankles are exposed that's an entirely different matter and you could be in serious danger. In this case you should take immediate life-saving measures
