That is in fact a very nice pair. I say it will go well above $2,500.

Don't ask, just go for it; If I want something I will bid my max, and no one will tell me not to bid.

This is the second pair I've seen go for over $3K. Last one was last summer. Wild.

I guess I have an investment.

.....I guess it's like real estate.
I had a pair, that were superior to these in condition.
They were available here in Polk Mecca for 2 months for 2K with no takers
On Audiogon for 1 month no takers
Finally sold on Ebay for $1850. and the buyer, also a polk forum member had to pay for both shipping and building of crates to get them back to them midwest.
I guess you can't give them away in California, but in the midwest they fetch 3K
    go figure.

There are probably a few reasons why this auction went so high.

1st, Indy is somewhat centrally located to many areas that would be a fairly easy to drive there and back in a day. Everywhere from Kansas City, to Cleveland, to Atlanta, and to Millwaukee. This would include Chicago, Detriot, Cincinnatti, Memphiis, Nashville, Columbus, St. Louis.

2nd, Its the time of the year. People are ripe with tax returns and are getting the stimulus payment soon. What time of year were you trying to sell yours?

That said, it was really two guys that drove this price so high. Those two competing bidders took it from $1750 right on up to $3k. Classic bidding war where neither wants to loose.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Not sure if that says something about California or if it says something about Indiana.

Here is my theory: In California, people have to pay crazy real-estate prices to enjoy the sunshine. In the Midwest, people get cheap real-estate and they have money to burn to make the interior of their house more pleasant with SDA's so that they can survive the awful winter months.

There was a pair on the west coast a while back that was listed on Craigslist for weeks for a couple hundred bucks with no buyers. The guy eventually ended taking an offer of something like $120.

You're probably right. I tried to sell mine at Christmas time, which on the front side sounds good, nice gift etc.
But people are also a little strapped at that time of the year buying other things. So timing and location are both key.

And... as a result... when it comes right down to it.... both bidders lost.

No kidding... I just recently got a pair of 2.3's for $750, and I can't imagine that 1.2's are worth anywhere near $2300 more.

Funny story, I was in the local stereo store (sold Polk back in the SDA days, before they went to mass merchants) and told them if they ever get any of the large SDA's in on trade to call me immediately. The salesman stated that he knew of a client that was looking to sell his 1.2TL's with RDO upgrade. I told him to call him up and I'd give him $1500 cash. About 5 minutes later he came back out front and told me that the client didn't want to deal with putting them on Craigslist or Ebay, so he 'gave' them to one of his employees for free...:(

I wonder if any Polksters have both the 1.2's and 2.3's so they could give us a heads-up comparison....

I don't currently have both, just the 1.2tls. But I have had two pairs of 2.3's and one pair of 2.3tl's. And although I like the size of the 2.3's better, they just didn't sound as full to me. And though I'm not sure of the specs, it seems like I get more bass out of the 1.2tls. I did have both pairs set up in the same room with the same equipment driving them, even so this is purely subjective on my part. I know there are several members here with 2.3's that would have it any other way.
