My gf and I won the leesburg Bakers Dozen mtb race again.
The race started at 11am saturday and if you make it to the transition area before midnight you are allowed to start another lap.
The plan was for me to start and put in 2 laps and then the gf would put in 2 laps and we would alternate through the day. I wasn't real confident in my fitness but I felt like my experience in endurance racing would pull me through. I started strong and rode hard getting into the woods in the top 15 out of about 130 riders. I was feeling good and put down 2 32 minute laps (each lap was just short of 8 miles) The gf went out and I stuck to my plan of nutrition and stretched and prepared for my next trip around the block. When we made the transition the gf looked a little rough and said her legs felt heavy so I really through down on my next 2 laps (I later found out the gf put down 2 33 minute laps ) My legs were on the border of locking up but with good nutrition I was able to push through. 2 more 32 minute laps. We made transition and a friend said we were in second and 5 minutes down  . I guess I better push harder and hope I can keep it up for another 8 hours. 2 34 minute laps later and my friend said we were in second and down by 17 minutes. I said "how can that be? I am throwing everything down out there" he pointed to a guy wearing stars and stripes and said "see that guy? 40+ short track national champion, thats your competition, he's the real deal" I said "short track my ****, this is 13hrs, He's in my house now, I'll ride my bike all f'in day" With the gf putting in consistant laps only 2 minutes off mine we started reeling them in and at 9pm I coaught the girl and passed her and put my head down to make some time, thats when I made a mistake and double flatted. I was so pissed at myself for the stupid mistake. I made it to the transition about 10 minutes off but the gf went shot out of a cannon and reeled the girl in at the 4 mile mark and with no looking back we started to make time. I finished my last lap at 11:53 getting the gf out for a final lap that put us 1 full lap ahead.
The gf ended up with 11 laps and about 84 miles, I ended up with 12 laps and about 92 miles. I think we were able to win by our experience and sticking to our nutritional plan, a little toughness didn't hurt either:D

Thanks all, it really was a lot of fun!
The promoter sent out a email, after reviewing the lap times the gf won the fastest female lap at 33.04, she beat up on a lot of boys that day and her last lap was a 36, only 3 min off the first lap riding a midnight with headlights is damn good, my last lap was about 5 minutes off my first.
The gf rides a gary fisher 29er full carbon hard tail. She gets some kind of team deal on that, she loves that bike, more than me I think
I used a Felt 29er hardtail for that race, thats probably the only race that I will use that bike on. I am probably going to use a Niner R.I.P. 9 for my next race (The Monster at Micheaux) after that I think I will just be doing some bmx and dual slalom racing, I'm not really into xc that much.
