New Member w/RTi-A9 pair on the way

Hello All,

My name is Jim Keeney, and this is my very first post on any sort of A/V forum. I just bought a pair of RTi-A9s online this morning, and they're expected in mid next week. I did a few searches for online reviews, both on this forum and using Google, and the pickin' was slim, to say the very least. So, I am here for both advice and, hopefully, a bit of "what to expect."

I am no true "audiophile," and my tastes in music range from heavy to heavier, with a bit of Grateful Dead and Sinatra tossed in for the sake of randomness. I listen to stuff like lamb of god, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, Metallica, Black Sabbath, etc... My 12 year old speakers, Infinity CS3007s, just gave up the ghost (deteriorated surrounds) and were in need of immediate replacement. I have an Adcom GFP-715 Preamp and an Adcom GFA-5500 Amp. I also have an Infinity Alpha 1200s Sub that was used to aid my old mains deal with double bass drums and heavy riffs. The TV is a Panasonic TH-42PZ77U, and CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Ray all go through my Panasonic DMP-BD30. I use the system for TV, yes, but have no desire whatsoever for surround sound.

My question is, did I do the right thing by going for the RTi-A9s? Do I have adequate power to drive them well without running the risk of damage or garbage sound? Will they handle fast, loud, heavy music, or should I look elsewhere and use these for a second system? Should I choose to bi-amp them, and if so, how do I do it properly? (I have no clue there)

I know, it's a lot to ask in a first post, especially AFTER the purchase was made, but curiosity and anticipation have gotten the best of me.

For the music you listen to - I think you made the perfect choice. You should be good to go with the pre-amp and amp that you have.

You really need to add a few more speakers though...

That sounds like a great setup for the type of music you listen to.

Those are some VERY nice looking speakers also. They should be pretty impressive.

You have a great system already & are a step ahead of most newbies with what separates already in place that includes a nice 200wpc amp! I think you are going to be very happy.

Thanks, fellas. After looking around a bit I feared that most would think the LSi25s would be what I needed, but since I already have a decent sub, I wanted to get a bit more tight, punchy bass in the system. I passed on the chance to get a very nice older McIntosh amp a few years back when I was in the army and I'm kicking myself now for not doing it. The Adcom has been great for me so far, and I'm hoping these new Polks will help me get the most out of the entire system. I'll post a few pics once I get them here and have everything up and running. You'll even get to see my home made entertainment stand. Simple, but stronger than most people's floors, and much less expensive than good furniture.

What should I do for breaking them in? Volume? Music type? Never done that before, so my interest is piqued.
