i've got a set of rti12s that will be going into an 18x18 room with 10ft tray ceiling. i'll be buying either the yamaha 663 or one of the new hk models coming in may hopefully. at first, this will be either a 2.0 or 2.1 system for 90% music, later on becoming a 4.0 or 4.1 system. i listen to metal, but i want it to sound good at low to moderate volumes (especially the double bass drums used so much in metal these days). i've read all about the "200 watt rule" so commonly used here and neither the yamaha or hk will have that much power. assuming i have between $500 and $800 to spend, which do you think would be better for fast bass response at low to moderate volumes, an amp or a sub?

Well i can't answer your ? but monday i'm going to pickup a pair
of 12s and i will also be using them mainly for music hard rock and
metal.
As for power i will be using a onkyo 805 with a adcom 555 amp i hope
it kicks butt. The price on the 12s seems good at $230.00 each i will let
you know how they work out.
