I recently picked up a pair of Monitor Audio GR10's...my first attempt at some decent monitors.
My SDA's were just too much for the room http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65342&highlight=new+room

I have been literally taken aback by what I'm hearing out of these small boxes.

Imaging is spot on,crystal clear highs and mids, and not too shabby on the lower end...Sound stage is not as big as the SDA's...but,it's damn good.

I'm very happy at this point:D

Congrats. There's just something about 2 way monitors that make them sweeter than big floorstandings.
And those Monitor Audio.....metal tweeter but not harsh at all. I've never heard the gold series, but had a silver 6 something that sounded beautiful in an all tubes rig.

    Enjoy!!

I like the old pic better, but to each his own. Where's the Polks now?, did you sell them?

Oh no,I don't have any plans of selling as of yet,I'm going to give em a go in the HT rig.

A small sub "might" be in the future, but for now,I'm quite happy...of course the Mon 10's don't have the low end of a 15" passive...but the entire sound from top to bottom is very, very good.

Hey Mike they are looking good! It opens up the room visually. Not as crowded, probably seems easier to breathe in there LOL! Maybe you've tried this, but I'd be tempted to toe them in just a tiny pinch. Depending on how loud you play music in there you may not need a sub.

Congrats on the great little rig. If they son breaks out on his own, do you get the room back?:D I think my boy has left the nest, hopefully he will make it on his own so I can have a little more space.

Nice set-up you have there. There's nothing like a great pair of monitors, something towers just can't equal. They try, but in the end...they fall short. Enjoy!!

Thanks Carl,The picture doesn't show it,but they are toed in just about right...imaging is one of their strong points for sure.

My son is 13,so it will be a while before i get "my" space back in the basement...he has it filled with weights/bench.

    The room is approx. 12'x12'.

Should I give up the idea of using SDA's for this room?

    Mike,

I'm glad you like what you have. I agree the 2.3's were too much for that room.

I'm using my 1b's in a 12' x 9.5' room and couldn't be happier so don't give up on the sda's for that room if you're so inclined to try them again. The 1b's are set up on the 12' wall.

Carl,I'll never give up on SDA's...I had a mint pair of 1C's that I sold and wish I had em back...just for this room.

SDA's just don't come up for sale very often in the midwest,I still want to try some SDA bookshelf speakers one day.

But,for now I'm one happy sombeach, the Monitors are really trippin' my trigger:D

Nice looking setup. I see you've got some Diana Krall, Dire Straits, (and Clapton Unplugged?) there. Good choices for dialing in a system.
