Look at these babies on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/McIntosh-MC1201-Amplifiers-Mc-1201-amps-set_W0QQitemZ290221814813QQihZ019QQcategoryZ67786QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

1200wpc with 2.1 dB headroom at 2,4, or 8 ohms. The seller says he used these to drive his Wilson Audio Maxx II with 7 watts a piece; wow. They also weigh 180 lbs a piece if you were considering shipping them. :p

Those aren't the Mac Daddys of McIntosh though.

    Enter the MC2KW: http://mcintoshlabs.com/products/mcintosh-mc2kw-2000-watt-reference-power-amplifier.asp

    Good greif...

    They probably want 50k a piece also.

I just don't know if I could justify it or not.

Maybe if I was super rich....

I just realized, doesn't it look kind of like a toaster? :D

Probably gives off the same amount of heat.

That totally looks like a toaster! The heat probably isn't too bad since it's SS, but their 300wpc tube monos could brown your Wonder Bread.

I also like that there is a 8K mark on the VU meter...

I am just curious wont 8 kilowatts fry your speakers?

In the amp world, when is too much really TOO MUCH?

The MC2KWs were made to drive the XRT2K speaker system. Massive towers with a zillion drivers. I'd imagine those could soak up over a thousand watts and high voltume. The 8K figure on the meter's probably just for giggles or crazy peaks.

The whole setup consists of 3 pieces. That's only the front piece in the picture.

What happens when you hook up this amp to "everyday" speakers, say a pair of LSi15?:D

I'm guessing you don't turn it up as high. But if you can afford two triple-chassic MC2KWs you'd probably get the whole package.

(The picture doesn't do the justice to the size. They're HUGE)

That is good price for those. I'm not sure I could stretch the budget for those at this time. The wife wants a new deck.

If your interested in seeing THE McIntosh system, go over to AudioKarma at the Mac site. There is a poster there named Master Lu. He has a system that will nock the fillings out of your teeth. Supposedly he has over $1,000,000.00 invested and still building!

As for Master Lu, his setup is featured on McIntosh's page.

    That's someone else's setup, it's a typo.

    I see.

Very impressive systems. But kind of makes me wonder, with all those amps packed so tight together and in cabinets, aren't there going to be problems with ventilation?

The xrt2k speaker by mac can handle 2k watts but can run on as little as 75. WOW thats alot of watts it can handle.
If life had more tubes it would be a lot smoother.
