Does any of ya'll have experience shipping a pair of SDAs? I have some out-of-town interest in my 2As and I am considering shipping since there seems to be no local interest. Since I bought them used, I don't have boxes for them or anything to ship them in. Should I make boxes for them, or ship them on a pallet? Thanks for the help.

In cartons, on a pallet is the best way, IMO.Political Correctness'.........defined

I second what F1nut said. I had my RTA12C's shipped that way - excellent packaging, strapped together & upright on a pallet - and they got to me in perfect condition. Cost a bundle - about $300 smackers, but it was worth it."Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then." Bob Seger

Those are not box only style loudspeakers....you need some more protection. The pallet suggestion, via freight, is an excellent idea.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

That's the way mine were delivered from Polk back in '88.Main System: Polk SDA SRS 1.2 Speakers, Sunfire Signature 600~two Amp, Carver C-16 Preamp, Carver TX-11b Tuner, Marantz 6350Q TT, Philips CDR-775 Recorder, Teac V-707RX Cassette Deck, Signal Cable Double Run Speaker Cable
Upstairs Den: Marantz 2325 Receiver, Marantz 5220 Cassette Deck, Marantz HD-880 Speakers, Marantz 6370Q TT
Exercise (Kabuki speaker) Room: Kenwood KR-9600 Receiver, Pioneer CS-99a Speakers, Sansui SP-X9000 Speakers (not pretty, but LOUD! ) -
Have them lying on their back if possible as well, on the pallet.

Is it really possible to affordably ship a 2 series, if you don't have any packing material of your own? I'm seeing Ebay sales with shipping costs of $65 for a pair. That seems too low for something so big. I wonder whether shipping it is really worth the higher price you might get over a local buyer.

If you want to repair or replace most of the speaker upon arrival....sure.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Large ones on a pallet, had 2.3's cross country no problem. Had RT 3000 the subs packed by UPS store in packing peanuts and wrapped in bubble wrap, bad idea the front baffle was separated from the cabinet. The speaker settled in the peanuts. If it was double boxed it would be ok. Had SRT system shipped cross country by Beakens, wrapped nice but had to replace the sub drivers, friction problem on cone excersion and separated round part behind the cone. Not sure if laying them flat to keep the proper orientation of the driver movement for the ride.

Thats great news Skolka. I'm about to ship some SRT's a grand total of about 9300 miles.......... I'll be lucky if i have any hair left by the end of it, Fedex almost lost them already on the NY to Mami leg, and the worst is to come.In terms of audio, i truly feel sorry for the visually impaired. How can they know what they like if they cant read google?

I think I will stay with a local buyer for my 2As per the cost and hassle on a not-to-rare pair of speakers. Thanks for all the help friends!
