First, I want to thank any and all for their comments and help. I have been reading many of the threads on this forum and you guys are fantastic....I have learned much already but still have a lot of questions....I am like a first grader right now so I am sure I will have some dumb questions. I just posted within the Carver vs Denon post but decided it might be best for me to start this thread for some help. I did a search but so much info came up that I didn't know where to start or how to narrow the search so please forgive if my questions have been answered many times before....just point me in the right direction. I recently purchased a pair of nearly mint SDA SRS speakers, the big ones! They are complete with cable and everything that came with them. I am a Carver guy for the most part but couldn't resist these monoliths and hearing them briefly convince me to take the plung. They were one owner and had never been moved from where they landed until I came to own them a few days ago. My questions are: will a single Carver 1.0t drive them? Are they 8ohm, 4ohm, or what? The instruction manual does not have their specifications so when I went up on the web to find out, all I could find were the 1.2 and 1.2tl specs....so, what are the specs for the first run SDA SRS speakers? I got some good help on the Carver forum and some of the Carver guys, who are also Polk guys, suggested I ask the Polk forum folks so again, any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If memory serves, I believe the SRSs are 4 ohm, and the 1.0t is 500wpc at that impedance so you are good to go. 500wpc into SDAs is a health dose and will really bring them to life.

Welcome Lighstar; you should be ok with that Carver as long as it is common ground.

yep four ohm, your connect will be blade/blade, do not try to use mono-blocks with your speakers. I have all the specs at home but I am sure others not at work will chime in, of course some of us have it all memorized...............are your tweeters silver or black?

You know many of us own or have owned a variety of SDA speakers, its always nice to read where someone new recognizes how outstanding these speakers really do sound.

Welcome to an active forum Lightstar. Brush off the Carver cobwebs and hang out for awhile.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Thanks for the welcome and replies....to answer RT1's question, my tweeters are silver. The connecting cable is in fact blade/blade.....so from what I understand, my Carver 1.0t should power them fine since the speakers are 4 ohm??....I would have guessed 8 ohm so glad to know I will get more watts from the amp. Now....is the amp common-ground?? Sure would like to know so that I can hook up everything by this weekend...

To find if it is common ground, look in the manual, look on the back of the amp (most amps that aren't will have a sticker that says so), or the best way is to use a digital multi-meter and test the continuity of the negative binding posts. They should come back as a short (meaning they are tied together). You could also test the impedance of the two negative post and it will be basically zero. Just let us know if you have any questions.

    Welcome Lightstar1!

I'm not familiar with that amp, someone here should know if it's common ground or not. My guess is that it is common ground and you'd be okay to use it.

    Good luck and welcome!
