Question about RDO tweeters

When they come from Polk, do they include new foam pads for the back, or do you need to re-use the originals?

Just wondering because I'm waiting on a pair for delivery and I've already got a buyer for my original SL-2000 pair.

You need to re-use the originals.

I searched, but couldn't find anything for another question I have:

Is the red terminal on the RDO supposed to be + or - ? With the 11T, the black wire was originally hooked to + and white was hooked to - on the old SL-2000. I assumed that red was the + and hooked the black wire to that side.

I know that phase doesn't matter as much with tweeters, but like many of us, I'm a bit anal when it comes to things like this.

The positive goes to red, the negative goes to your closest 1500w 60Hz source. :D

Thanks again guys. I'm glad to hear that I had them hooked up correctly in the first place. I'm really enjoying the sound of the silks and I know it will only get better.

Do the RDO's sound better than the SL3000's? I have 3 bad tweeters (SRS 2.3TL), and need to replace or upgrade.

Yes, much better. Do yourself a favor and replace all of them if you can swing it. If it's too much too replace them all then I'm sure there are some used sl3000's FS, post a wanted to buy thread in the appropriate forum.

heiney9 do the RDO's sound bright and crisp like my new rti12's that I purchased a year ago. I like them loud and clear. I also have the Monitor 10's (very clean and crisp) not as dull as the 2.3TL's that I just purchased. I am willing to buy all 6 RDO's if they are louder than the sl3000's if not I am going to buy 3 used sl3000 to replace my fried ones. Thank you for any help or suggestions.

I've never been a fan of the RTi series for music; too harsh and bright for me. RD0's have a very clean crisp and clear sound. The best words to describe them is smooth and open. Your Monitor 10's (if they have the sl2000) have a terrible sounding tweeter to my ears. They have a nasty +5dB spike at around 13kHz and tend to have a nasty resonance on certain female vocals and don't reproduce piano sounds very realistically (sort of a ringing sound).

Perhaps we hear things differently because I would never describe the sl3000 like in your 2.3TL's as "dull". The RD0's will not be louder than the sl3000 (not sure what you mean by that). The output of the tweeter is controlled by the x-over network. Since the RD0's have the same electrical characteristics they will have the same output.

Where did you get your 2.3TL's?

    heiney9,
I found them at a Pawn Shop for $500. They are in perfect condition, the wood is beautiful and the grills are almost perfect for there age (the book buy the cover purchase). When I got them home, that is when I noticed that the Left speaker was dull and the Right Speaker was loud and clear.

I pin pointed the bad tweeters, removed them all and check the Ohlms, (3) were open circuits. I then installed the (3) good Tweeters on one speaker, Loud sound from the Top Tweeter, Nothing from the Center Tweeter and Soft sound from the Bottom Tweeter.

This is the same for Both Speakers. Do you think I need to rebuild the Crossover? Any information on this, or how to test? Or is this normal?

Thank you for any help or suggestions.

Since you are getting off the original topic, I suggest you start a new thread so that you get people looking at your new question(s). I don't have any experience with the large SDA series, so I can't help.
