What does this do exactly? I think i've seen other posts talk about that it'll add a tube-like sound to a SS system? Is that correct, and does this piece do a good job at it?

That is pretty much what it does. You can put it in line with your CD player, record player, or even between your preamp and amp.

It does add tube sound, and if I still had my previous system I would have loved it. It just didn't mate well with my current system which I'm really happy with at the moment.

It added a bit of warmth, depth and width to the soundstage. With that, detail suffered a tad, and it lightened up the bass a little in my room. Due to my positioning and my room I have a bit thicker bass from my listening position, so I'd like to say that it actually corrected it. In reality it lightened the bass a bit so the bad acoustics in my room weren't so obvious.

If I could roll tubes in it I'd keep it.

Overall a very cool little piece, it just doesn't go with my current system and I have no other use for it. (and I just had to mail the tax man enough money to buy a small car so I'm trying to recoup some funds!)
