Anybody else miss Polk's Tri-Laminate tweeters and silk tweeters found in the older RT line?
I miss my RT800i with the tri-lams. I was listening to my pair of RT5 the other day and those speakers are just awesome. The last time I heard Polks newer RT line was about 3 years ago. I just don't remember them having the same nice sound of the older line. I need to keep my eyes open for a pair of RT7.
Anybody else miss the old stuff?

I thought you were referring to the chicks in the "Revenge of the Nerds".;)

I used to like the tweeter on the RT-800 much better than the current RTi lineup.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

Revenge of the Nerds lol:D Haven't seen the movie, but read the book.
Treitz, I remember reading posts in the past here about Polk not being able to source them anymore. There was a company that was making them for Polk.
I know they were tamed down a little with the RT"i" series and that was the last time I remember seeing them. -

I don't miss the old stuff.. all i got is the old stuff.
I've never heard a pair of RT7's. but I do use the RT800i's in my HT. I still think they sound good to me. Even though they were closely related to the RT600i and the RT1000i, the 800i's had better mids to me.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Nope, don't miss the old stuff. It's time to think about new Polk, not old Polk.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

My RT7's will go to the grave with me, they started it all for me, Polk-wise.
That being said, the RT line has come a long way, if you haven't gotten your ears on the new gen RTiA - you are doing yourself an injustice.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
RT7's are where it's at.....that said though, I'm continually impressed by the new stuff coming from Polk.

I hated the tri-lam......
I'm glad I sold all my RT's..... -
Does anybody know if the RT-800 had the tri-laminate tweeter? I do remember it having the words "dynamic balance" on it, but that's about all. I wish I never got rid of them as they were my first Polk speakers that I had teamed up with their beginner sub at the time. Ran with that in an HT setup for years.
As far as missing the old speakers, I would say no. Polk has many good designs throughout the years and some really good current products as well. Let's just say that I'm looking forward to the future of Polk speakers.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? Yes
They had the Tri-Lam.
They were my first pair of polks also. -
Not really. I had the tri-lams in my RT55is until one went bad. It was under warranty and they were no longer made and so I was sent the silk dome replacement. In order to not have mismatched tweeters I replaced them both. I think the silk dome sounds better than the original tri-lams. Of course they are still in my RT25i speakers."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

I have 7 tri-lams in the house and listen to them every day, well, actually, one of the RT25i is a spare that is boxed up until I can do a proper 7.1 (currently only 6.1). I have no problem with the sound of the trilam. I don't know what I'd do if one of them crapped out though. That said, I also like the sound of the current silk domes.
BTW, I thought the RT5 had a poly dome, dynamic balance. I didn't think Polk did anything with silk until the first RTi series (RTi70, 35, etc)For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -
I do like the tri-lams and still run a tri-lam HT. Some people refer to them as bright, but they were a lot less bright than a lot of speakers in their same time period (metal domes, etc). I was a little sad when I went from RT800s to KEFs. Sure the KEFs were uber-detailed and sounded really good, but they just didn't have that Polk warmth. It's going to take a lot to get me to sell my CS350...

I have pretty limited experience with the older RT towers, but as far as bookshelf speakers are concerned I like my RT25i's far more than the RTi4's or RTi6's that I had.HT
