Questions about fine tuning

I'm sure there are many threads on this subject, but I couldn't find what I was looking for. I have a couple of questions about fine tuning my system and a couple of concerns. My set up sounds decent, but I think it could sound better. First, here is my set up.
HK AVR 146
PS3
F&R- RM1300's
C- RM1600
Sub- PSW250
My first concern is about wire size. I had my home pre wired for surround sound and I believe the wire that was run is 22 or 24 guage. From what I've read, this seems kind of small. Could this have an affect on my speaker performance? My second concern is if my reciever, speaker match up is enough to fill my room. (approx. 15 by 20) My last concern is about the over all sound of my set up. My speakers almost sound flat. The High's aren't as clear and crisp as I think they should be. I have the X-over freq. set at 150 for the 1300's and 120Htz for the 1600 and the speaker size set to small. Any help would be appriciated.

Welcome to club Polk.
Your speaker wire is to light of a Ga. You should run 16, or 14ga for them. WalMart has decent wire in the automotive section. I have found this to be better than the Home audio section for speaker wire. This will help quite a bit. Also your XO point seems to be too high. I could not find your series of speakers, but 100hz should be about right for them.
Enjoy
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Another really good place for speaker wire really cheep is monopricecables.com. I ordered 300 feet of 14 gauge plus many other cables. Another thing is that you can use a decimal meter like the kind you can get at radio shack so you can tune all of your gains on your speakers. If life had more tubes it would be a lot smoother.

Thanks for the advise. I'll try and change out the smaller wire for a larger guage.Sony 46" Bravia XBR4
