New Receiver as pre : Onkyo, Denon, Pioneer, or Marantz?

Hi guys!
Am from the world of car audio and still learning the ropes on the Home audio front

Anyways trying to come up with a plan for a good system and I know i want to use an outboard amp but can you guys recommend a good receiver that has all the features and won't break the bank (hopefully $400 or so).
What should i look out for? which models should i look into? (reason i only mentioned the 4 are cus they're the easiest available where i am (philippines)).
Anyone have the inside scoop on the new gear from these 4?

With Onkyo, it will be the TX-SR705 before you get into preamp outputs and those "retail" at $799 although you'll see them going around the $600 range or so right now.Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa? Or is it........................Spanky?.................................Sinner.

If you're going to use a separate amp, why do you want a receiver as a pre/pro? Why not go straight for a dedicated separate pre/pro?If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

You should have Harman/Kardon available through their e-bay outlet store. You can purchase either the 435 or probably the 437 for that price and have a fine front-end. After that, your could try accessories4less and grab a Marantz.
