Anyone familiar with this model. I am looking at one and wonder about it's value. $300-$400 is mentioned on Google searches. I do not have Audiogon access to selling values. Are there other sources to determine values? Thanks in advance.

In good condition they are easily worth $300 and probably closer to $500. They are a great looking TT and supposedly sound as nice as they look.

The only problem with these older Denon turntables is the lack of parts availability. They are somewhat complex with the servo arms, speed control, etc. If something goes wrong, you are kinda screwed. You'd have an expensive paperweight.

$500 must be if you live on Mars.....

The low is $90, with and average of $370 and the trending is going down. The $370 was for a 9/10 table, not just "good".
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I wish I could find one for that! I don't doubt you, I was going off what I have read and seen recently.

On Ebay, they rarely go for less than $400. A-gon numbers are not accurate in this case.

    Here is an example:

I'm not saying they are worth that, by any means, but that's what they go for. If you get to the $500 range, I'd start looking for a VPI or some other mid-fi belt drive table with a removable tonearm.

Cubdog - I'm only looking at one side of it, so it's possible.

Bill - OK, that's a better indicator of recent sales but Audiogon isn't far off in my experience. Some audio items always go for more on eBay due to the inexperience of the buyers....which is great for sellers. It probably moves that value back to Earth again :)

    dorokusai,

Your numbers seem to be quotes from a knowledgeable source. Do you have access to historical sales figures? I am sure everyone knows more about used vintage prices than I, so I am trying not to be blinded by the wow factor the piece has for me. I like vintage. I like the look of this TT. Thanks for helping me not pay too much if given the opportunity to make an offer.

I think it may also be because there are many more selling on Ebay compared to Audiogon. If you want a VPI, Clearaudio, SME, or other botique turntables, then Audiogon is the place. If you want a 1980's vintage Japanese turntable, Ebay is where you will likely find it.

I watched those Denons on Ebay for almost a full year before I settled on my VPI. They were always going high ($400-$700).

Like I said before, I don't think they are worth that much and I don't think they are the best in terms of reliability either. Lack of parts is what kept me away from them in the end. Too many complaints about dead tables and no ability to repair them.

You have a better view on them Bill and that works for me. There is definitley more traffic on eBay for that table.

APC - That is my historical value of $370 as an average. I buy my gear based on Audiogon vs UsedPrice.com(Orion) not eBay so take that for what its worth.

I'm alergic to ebay and try to avoid at all costs.

doro - Thanks for your numbers. I do not evaluate enough stuff to warrant a membership in either of those places.

bill - Are they really that unreliable or are you turned away due to age of parts and failure rate based on that age?

One last question - someone mentioned that it should have two tonearms and accessories. Can anyone verify this?

I don't know what you mean by "that unreliable", but anytime something cannot be fixed if it breaks, that's a turnoff to me. Also, the more bells and whistles inside, the more there is to go wrong over time. These Denons had more than your average amount of bells/whistles.

Yes, they originally came with two arm wands (a straight, and S-curved wand) along with alignment jigs, and assorted counterweights. The S-shaped had a removable headshell, the straight was a fixed headshell. The different counterweights were needed to work with all the different wand/headshell/cartridge combinations.

Its rare to find one with all the stuff though, and to me, that is another turnoff. If you are limited to a small range of cartridges (due to not having the right counterweights), then you might not be able to get the most out of the table.

    Hi,
I have owned a DP-72 for 20 years. I few years ago I removed all the electronics from the arm and all the crap attached to the bottom of the arm for the auto lift. I rewired the arm with Cardas tt wire also. Sounds alot better than before. I use a Denon DL-103r mc cart. I havent compared it to any other table. $300 seems high. New Rega tables start about there.
