It's called safety regulations. They work every now and then.

That was an unreal hit. I can't imagine climbing right back in a few days later and racing.

Poor quality video, but I still think this is the worst I've ever seen.

That and the SAFER barrier...combined they saved that rookies ****. That hit was much worse then Dale Sr's hit and he didnt walk away, actualy Dale Sr's was so minor in comparison that just a HANS device alone would have left him to race another day.

He's lucky all his organs didn't get tangled just from the impact. Safety cage or not going from 187 to nothing that quickly is rough on the innards.

WOW. Great safety barrier. Tony stopped to watch. Looked like he had a limp.

    Glad he is safe,

I know this isn't the worst wreck ever, but it just goes to prove how safe these new cars and tracks are. Dale Sr. probably saved this guy's life.

And the HANS device that Dale refused to wear might have done the same for his stubborn **** if his ego wasn't so huge.

The worst I remember watching was this one:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jjel7nFlK2Q

IIRC, this was the crash that made NASCAR mandate those flaps that flip up on the top of the car when it gets moving sideways or backwards to cause drag and keep the car on the ground.

Wallace got messed up in that accident with a severe concussion, several broken bones and cuts all over the place. They had to cut him out of the car. Ironically, the crash occurred after he crossed the finish line on the last lap. Dale Earnhardt bumped him and sent him sailing.
