Getting an amp

I am now waiting to receive my "new" (used) B & K reference 4420. I can't wait to hear this thing power my RTI 8's and whatever else I upgrade to in the future. I think 550 was a fair price to pay. Now time to look for a nice 5 channel to do the other speakers. My bank account sure doesn't like me getting involved with this site. lol

    Ships a B&K Reference 4420 cross-country wrapped in a sportcoat. Amp is DOA but seller tells me I don't know how to operate a power amp. Even if I am incompetent, shipping an amp wrapped in a sportcoat is unacceptable.

    Well, I'm a noob in the world of separates, and have no history of using other amps, but I can say you may want to check out Emotiva.com. They have a nice and highly rated 5 channel 200 watt per channel amp(@8ohm) for $800-the XPA-5; just look at their site for all the specs.

    They have and are coming out with a few more varieties soon (summer??) as well (3 channel, etc.). Also avail for $800 is the XPA-2 which is a 2 channel version, but slightly different (better) design than the XPA-5 (its not just the XPA-5 with less channels).
    Everything I've read indicates that the price to performance ratio is simply unheard of (for new equipment) and add a 5 year warranty and apparently killer customer service on top of it.

    Now I can't compare it to other amps from experience, but it certainly makes my speaker setup sing quite nicely. Well OK, I can compare it to my old Sony 120 wpc pseudo HTiB AVR system on the same speakers-this simply blows that thing out of the water, catches it midair, chews it up, and spits it out; and you can hear each and every powerful crunch, splatter, and splash as it happens. :cool:

    I plan to use my Onkyo 805 to handle the rear speakers and sub out, while the XPA-5 handles the rest so I'll still be able to handle the 7.1 setup.

    I just paid for it yesterday. Won't have it for a short while still. I am just using my yammie avr to pre-amp it.

    I have a Panasonic SAHE200 along with Polk Towers rt2000p with polk surround di bi's and a Polk Center Channel and an SVS PB-2-12; I only se a Pre for the Subwoofer; would there be some sort of work around whereby I could still set up an Emotiva Amp 7 Channel to the Panasonic? I don't believe there are any other places to plug the receiver into? Hope you or someone would know the answer to this question, for I am seriously looking into going with Emotiva.

    Unless your receiver has the pre-outs for an amp,your out of luck. No such work around for that one.Could be time to upgrade the receiver first.

    Well I hooked up the amp with only a computer power cord as a temp. (the proper one didn't get packaged with the amp). I absolutely love the sound. Noticed a difference right away. The highs became a bit warmer, the overall sound is just so much more... smooth. From near muted to deafening loud, music sounds great. I love the new PureAV AP11000fc I picked up as well. Can't go wrong for 35 bucks!
