New Kids on the Block to Reunite... why oh why??

BOSTON (AP) - They may be pushing 40, but the New Kids are returning to the block. The Boston boy band New Kids on the Block, which sold 70 million albums in the 1980s and early 1990s, has reunited and plans to release a new album and go on tour. The reunion comes 20 years after the release of the group's multi-platinum album, "Hanging Tough."

The group released a new photo Wednesday and reportedly will appear on the Today show Friday morning - the same time an unmarked countdown clock on ends.http://www.nkotb.com

"The fan response to this has been incredible," band member Donnie Wahlberg told the Boston Herald.

Wahlberg said he was convinced to get back together with his former bandmates - Joey McIntyre, brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight and Danny Wood - when they decided to record new music. Wahlberg said he wrote 80 percent of the new material with McIntyre and Jordan Knight.

"I had no interest going out on a nostalgia tour and singing the same material," said Wahlberg, 38.

But he added, "We absolutely will do the old songs for sure."

Producer Maurice Starr formed the group in Boston in the 1980s, hoping to recreate the success he had with another teen group from the city, New Edition.

At the height of their popularity, New Kids sold out world tours, marketed millions of dollars in merchandise and spawned a Saturday morning cartoon.

The group disbanded in 1994. Wahlberg has acted on television and in movies, while Jordan Knight, McIntyre and Wood released solo albums. Jonathan Knight became a real estate developer.



Why are they trying to punish us like this? Why WHY WHYYYYYYYYY???? :confused: :eek:

    Because there are enough mindless knuckleheads out there that will buy the album and tickets to their concerts. They'll make millions yet again.

    Thats whats truly sad. Not the fact that these losers are getting back together but the fact that theyll probably sell a million CD's!

    i'm guessing they'll cut one CD, and tour to support it.. but honestly.. it's kind of creepy if you ask me.

    what back in the 80's, their fans were mostly 15 yr old girls.. those same girls are now 35+, while not old.. it's kind of creepy. if they do attract 15 yr old girls again.. that's really sick dude. :p

    C'mon, do people really want to hear 40 yr old guys singing about puppy love? now that's creepy. :eek:

    People still line up to hear Donny Osmond, a 50 year old grandfather :eek:, sing about it in concert.

    Thank you! Didn't we just get through talking about the Beach Boys & how good they are? What about the Eagles, Kiss, Barry Manilow, Fleetwood Mac, etc? the list is endless of old perfomers who still draw huge crowds.

    So long as they still have the harmonies & voices to put on a great show that is all that matters!

    yes, but Cathy, you can't even put the New Kids on the Block in the same breath as the Beach Boys, or the Eagles or Fleetwood Mac, they have talent to back up their music. The NKOB, not to much talent there that I can remember. :p

    LOL!:D I'm sure you're right Al. I don't really remember much about them other than the name. I'm just saying that IF the talent & skills are still there, then they should go for it & live long & prosper.:D
