Subwoofer hookup

I have a situation that I could use some advice. I am trying to hookup a Audio Source subwoofer to a Yamaha HTR5790. I am using the subwoofer output jack. The problem is that the receiver doesn't reconize that a subwoofer is connected, even checked that the subwoofer is "on" on the manual setup. No response when I tried to override it, even the test sounds aren't working on it. The rest of my speakers are Polk and they work great. Any other line outs can I use? I have a total of 6 speakers. Thank you.

you are plugged into the sub pre amp out as per page 13 of your manual? pg 20 talks about manual adjustments. pg 25 gives setup instructions. pg 28 is where you tell you Yammy that you have a sub. pg 33 talks in notes why you would not get output to sub.
I just searched manual from yammy site.
Hope this helps,

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is hooked up to the subwoofer preout. I have the manual open. I went through the setup yesterday (The system is at a cabin about an hour away). I should mention that this was recently purchased used. The other owner had the sub plugged into the "front" rca jack,( pg 20 top left). He said it sounded better. All worked fine at initial setup like he had it but I used the auto setup and now very little bass. If I plug it into the subwoofer preout no reconigntion..

I think so, It is new construction, the electricians ran coax in the walls, then I installed a split rca plug on the subwoofer side and a single rca plug on the receiver side.

You need to look at the sub, and see if it is plugged into the line in on the sub.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Thanks, we did have sound yesterday but after I did the auto setup, it is barely on. The previous owner had the sub hooked into the "front" rca preout when I bought it. I then tried to plug it in to the subwoofer pre out but their is no sound and the Yamaha 5790's manual adjustments/test signals don't produce any sounds. They look like they are working on the receiver, but no sound change. Thank for the help.

Hopefully someone with a Yami here can help. For now make sure your subs power is in the on position, and not auto. When you power cycle your Yami the next time hopefully it picks it up. Also try to manually calibrate the speaker levels in the Yami's setup manual.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com.
